🚒🦌 An Unusual Rescue for Your Livonia Fire Department!

This morning, our firefighters responded to what may be a first for our department: rescuing a deer trapped inside a residential inground swimming pool!

The deer had apparently fallen through a secured pool cover and, with the pool partially drained, was unable to get enough footing to climb out. Livonia Police officers arrived first and quickly requested our assistance.

Our firefighters lowered an extension ladder into the pool, giving the deer a way to climb out. Once the ladder was in place, the deer successfully rescued itself and ran off, apparently uninjured!

A happy ending and a great reminder for pool owners!

⚠️ POOL SAFETY REMINDER: Pool covers are not always wildlife-proof. Deer and other animals can accidentally fall into pools and become trapped. Regularly inspect your pool cover and consider installing an approved wildlife escape ramp to give animals a way out if they find themselves in trouble.

Great teamwork by our Livonia Police officers and firefighters!

We’re always ready to answer the call, even when the patient has four legs! 🚒🦌

As families get ready for a fun night of trick-or-treating tomorrow, we want to remind everyone to make safety a priority!
A few reminders before heading out tomorrow:
🍬 Stay visible: Wear bright or reflective clothing and consider carrying a flashlight or glow sticks.
🚸 Cross safely: Use sidewalks and crosswalks whenever possible. Look both ways and avoid crossing between parked cars.
🚗 Drive cautiously: Drivers should slow down, stay alert, and watch carefully for children crossing streets and walking between homes.
👨‍👩‍👧 Stick together: Young children should always be accompanied by an adult. Plan your route and make sure everyone knows where to meet if separated.
🏠 Be aware: Only visit homes with their porch lights on, and remind children not to enter a stranger's home.

A reminder that Livonia does not have designated trick-or-treating hours, so please plan accordingly.

Have fun, look out for one another, and have a safe and happy Halloween, Livonia! 🧡🎃

When you turn your clocks back on Sunday, Nov. 1, use the extra hour to test your smoke alarms. Get more smoke alarm safety tips: https://bit.ly/4ssr4tI.
• Test every smoke alarm using the test button.
• Change replaceable batteries if it’s been a year since you last changed them. If you can't remember, change them.
• Check the manufacture date. Replace smoke alarms that are 10 years old or have no date.

LFD was happy to take part in the city's Annual Candy-Go-Round at the Jack E. Kirksey Recreation Center. There were 38 different stops and more than 500 participants.

This Halloween be sure to always walk with an adult, use glow sticks or glow jewelry (like the rings we handed out today), follow curfew, and have an adult help you to make sure all of your goodies are safety inspected!

Have a spooky good Halloween 🎃
