Part of our work is translating two-dimensional drawings into a three-dimensional home while managing schedule, budget, trade coordination, and the hundreds of decisions that happen along the way.

It is technical work, collaborative work, and often a lot of problem-solving.
And when it is done well, the finished home makes all of that complexity look easy.

A home gym looks a little different when it is designed around the people actually using it.

Some need room for weights and equipment. Others need open space to stretch, train, or simply move. Good lighting, durable materials, and thoughtful storage help make the space functional without making it feel like an afterthought.

One detail we love from a longtime client’s homes: an antique clock has moved with the family from one house to the next, and even a basement island from an earlier home was restored and carried forward into The Farm in Grant.

Those pieces are not there because they are trendy. They are there because they mean something — their beauty is simply a bonus.

A new home does not have to erase what came before. Sometimes the most personal spaces are the ones that bring a little history with them.

One of the hardest things to do well in a historic home is add something new without making it feel new.

At this White Bear Lake cottage, originally designed by Cass Gilbert, the goal was not to compete with the architecture that was already there. It was to create an ADU that respected the scale, materials, and character of the original home while giving the property new functionality for today.

Sometimes the best addition is the one that feels like it has always belonged.

Ending the week with River Oasis.

Set along the St. Croix River in Afton, this home was designed to make the most of its setting — with clean lines, expansive glass, and indoor-outdoor spaces that keep the river views front and center.

A beautiful project, and a pretty good view to head into the weekend with.

WIP Wednesday: up on the roof.

Roofing is one of those stages where the house really starts to read differently from the street. The lines get sharper, the overall shape becomes clearer, and the structure starts to feel much more finished.

A lot still happens from here, but this is a good one to watch come together.
