there’s more than candidates on your November ballot! ***𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙚***
I got an email this morning reminding me that, as a REALTOR® & homeowner myself, I know how much a home means! The hard work it takes to buy it, the memories made there & the hope of being able to stay for years to come.🤍
This November’s ballot includes decisions that could affect your home, family & the neighborhood you love.
On November 3, voters will consider 10 constitutional amendments, and seven of them could directly affect homeowners, buyers, seniors, veterans, property owners and neighborhoods across Louisiana.
Louisiana REALTORS® recommends a YES vote on Amendments 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.
Here’s why:
✅ Amendment 1 would allow surviving spouses of disabled veterans to carry their property-tax exemption to a new home one time if they move.
✅ Amendment 2 would remove a penalty that can discourage local governments from lowering property-tax rates. It would not raise taxes or allow rates to exceed what voters previously approved.
✅ Amendment 6 would allow parishes and municipalities, with voter approval, to offer an additional property-tax exemption to qualifying homeowners age 65 and older.
✅ Amendment 7 would allow local governments to use public funds to replace lead water service lines on the homeowner’s side of the property line, helping protect families and keep homes safe and marketable.
✅ Amendment 8 would prohibit foreign adversaries and their agents from using Louisiana’s expropriation process to force the sale or seizure of private property.
✅ Amendment 9 would raise the income limit for the property-tax freeze available to qualifying seniors and disabled homeowners from $100,000 to $150,000, helping more people remain in the homes they worked hard to afford.
✅ Amendment 10 would allow property-tax exemptions for blighted or derelict properties that have been rehabilitated, encouraging investment in neglected neighborhoods and helping bring abandoned properties back to productive use.
These amendments are not a complete solution to housing affordability, but they address issues that matter to homeowners and communities: predictable property taxes, secure property rights, safer homes and stronger neighborhoods.
Early voting runs October 20 through 27, and Election Day is November 3. Find your polling place and sample ballot at GeauxVote.
Read the amendments, talk with your neighbors and remember that homeownership is on the ballot, too.
