I have done a lot of older homes recently and it just amazes me how there is a total lack of smoke detectors. Especially older homes where the potential of a fire is more expected. Also the total lack of Carbon Monoxide Detectors in almost all of the homes I inspect, newer or older. New home construction requires a combination Smoke/ CO detectors which is great but they are usually mounted on the ceiling or high on the walls. Carbon monoxide trends to stay lower to the floor and by the time it reaches the ceiling the detector goes off and you are in bed or sitting close to the floor it may be too late for you…. Please everyone install new smoke detectors in each room on each floor and definitely install new CO detectors on each floor of your home. These are inexpensive devices that can save your lives! Please install new smoke detectors and CO detectors in your home. I’ll never get to say “I’ve seen it all “.
