An outlet on the side of a kitchen island seems pretty ordinary, right? It's a detail not many homeowners think twice about! But plugging in a countertop appliance here can leave its cord dangling over the edge, where someone could snag on it.

That's why we point this out during our home inspections - kitchen counter outlets are only permitted to be on or above the actual counter for your safety. Older homes might have been built under earlier requirements, so a lower outlet doesn't automatically mean the original installation was improper, though!

It's a small detail with big safety implications. These are the sorts of things we catch during our inspections.

"Wood" you believe what we found in this sewer line? At roughly 60 feet into this sewer scope inspection, our camera spotted what looks like a big ole' hunk of wood lodged across the pipe, with buildup already collecting around it. An obstruction like this can catch waste and toilet paper, restrict flow, and eventually cause backups.

Even if your drain looks like it's working now, this could become a big surprise down the line.

A sewer scope gives us a camera's-eye view of what's happening underground, revealing concerns you wouldn't normally be able to see during a walk through. This find calls for a plumber to evaluate the obstruction and determine how to remove it, but this is why you should have your home inspector do a sewer scope inspection to find issues in the first place!
