Better connections create more opportunities for Kansas communities!

Kansas Department of Transportation recently announced six new EV fast-charging locations across Kansas, supported by more than $3.7 million in federal funding through the Charge Up Kansas NEVI program.

We're excited that Coffee & EV by Eastside Innovation in Parsons, Kansas, is among the selected sites, expanding EV charging access along U.S. 400 while creating new opportunities for local economic development.

We love Southeast Kansas! True to our Eastside ethos, we believe in the potential of communities and the importance of investing in places where new opportunities can take root. We're excited to bring that same commitment to Southeast Kansas and look forward to helping drive economic prosperity in the region.

More connections. More opportunities. Stronger communities.

We’re looking forward to being part of the 2026 Heartland Developer Summit on October 15 at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center.

As part of this year’s summit, Tamara and Erik will join Kelvin Simmons, President of Monarch Development, for a session focused on what it takes to move Opportunity Zones 2.0 from designation to implementation.

The conversation will explore a community-led approach to aligning project pipelines, partnerships and capital readiness, with real-time examples from Kansas City, Kansas. Attendees will walk away with a practical framework for building a more coordinated investment strategy and preparing communities to engage capital from a position of readiness.

We’re excited to contribute to the conversation and connect with developers and community partners from across the region.

The goal is simple: see it for yourself. We’ll tour the building, explore its energy-efficient systems, technology, living spaces and amenities, and talk about the ideas and building approaches that could inform the residential vision for Midtown Station.

This is an opportunity to learn, ask questions, and have a tangible conversation about what’s possible.

What does impact look like in practice? It’s not just the number. It’s what the number makes possible.

A new acquisition pushed our East Oakland portfolio beyond 500,000 square feet, giving us greater capacity to invest in, improve, and manage properties over the long term. Full occupancy across our San Francisco portfolio means those spaces are in demand and being used rather than sitting vacant. In Los Angeles, a $75 million Opportunity Zone redevelopment across from the Convention Center is designed to bring retail, entertainment, and EV charging together in one destination, creating new activity while adding infrastructure for cleaner mobility. Together, these milestones show how thoughtful investment can keep existing assets productive and create places built for what comes next.

What do you look for when deciding whether a development has created meaningful, long-term impact?

An airport can be more than a gateway to a city. It can be a gateway to opportunity for the people who call that city home.

That is the purpose behind our Airside work. This year, we advanced airport projects designed not only to meet growing aviation demand, but to strengthen the communities around them. At Wheeler Downtown Airport, the planned Apex Aero Center pairs new terminal, hangar, office, and maintenance space with an expansion of Red Tail Academy, designed to connect more Kansas City youth with careers across the aviation industry. Projects like this can help local businesses reach wider markets while supporting skilled employment and long-term economic mobility. We’re proud of the partnerships moving this vision forward and what they represent: airports that do more than connect destinations. They connect people to possibility.

What should the next generation of airport development deliver for the communities it serves?

This Independence Day feels especially meaningful as our nation begins celebrating America's 250th year.

250 years is more than a milestone. It's a reminder that America has never been finished. Our country's greatest strength has always been its people—generations of dreamers, builders, veterans, entrepreneurs, immigrants, workers, artists, and neighbors who have each helped shape what this nation can become.

Our history is complex. Our story is still being written. And every generation has the opportunity—and responsibility—to leave it better than they found it.

We believe strong communities are built by investing in people, expanding opportunity, supporting local entrepreneurs, preserving history, and creating pathways for everyone to thrive. We honor where we've been while helping build what comes next.

As we celebrate 250 years of the United States, we also celebrate the communities that continue to move our country forward every day. Progress doesn't happen all at once. It happens through partnership, persistence, and people who believe tomorrow can be better than today.

Happy Independence Day. Here's to continuing the work of building an America where opportunity is within reach for everyone 🩵❤️🤍
