Yesterday, we broke ground on Zone 32 Phase II — and the Kalamazoo community showed up.
38 new mixed-income units. Studios, one-bedrooms, and two-bedroom/two-bathroom apartments. A community room, outdoor amenities, and commercial space. When complete, Zone 32 will total 50 residential units, three commercial spaces, and roughly $15 million in investment on one block in Kalamazoo's Northside.
We are so grateful to everyone who helped make this day possible.
Thank you to Kalamazoo City Manager Malcolm Hankins and the City of Kalamazoo, County Commission Chair Jen Strebs, Commissioner Rey, Commissioner Morales, Housing Director Mary Balkema, and Deputy Housing Director Willa DiTaranto for your leadership and support. Thank you to Josh Sledge and the Kalamazoo Community Foundation, IFF, Independent Bank, LISC, Foundation for Excellence, and MSHDA for the capital investment that made this financing stack possible. Thank you to Pinnacle Construction and TowerPinkster for the expertise and ex*****on that turns vision into reality. And thank you to Southwest Michigan First and Clarence Lloyd for hosting a ceremony that honored the moment and the people in it.
In Jamauri's words: "It was only possible because we all aligned around a shared vision and a shared journey to uplift our community and change the conditions in the neighborhoods we serve."
That's what yesterday was about. Now let's build.
