Texas homeowners have new clarification on what insurance companies can and cannot consider when deciding whether to provide or renew a homeowners policy.

The Texas Department of Insurance said insurance companies cannot deny or refuse to renew a homeowners insurance policy simply because a home or its roof is older.

FM 270 BOAT RAMP CLOSING OCTOBER 12

The League City public boat ramp at 1399 North Egret Bay Blvd. will temporarily close beginning October 12 for a major renovation project. The 35-year-old facility, located near the FM 270 bridge at Clear Creek, is expected to reopen in spring 2027.

Planned improvements include:

• Upgrades to all three boat ramps
• New and improved docks
• Bulkhead rehabilitation
• Upgraded walkways and decking
• New dock bumpers
• Parking lot and sidewalk improvements
• Enhanced accessibility throughout the facility

The improvements will make the popular launch safer, more accessible and easier to use. The $2 million project is partially funded through a grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

In case you’re interested. My family only ate there twice when it first opened, and never went back, as we felt it was extremely overpriced. Hopefully, the “new” iteration will have reasonable prices.

Houston voters! Double check you're still a registered voter. TX Secretary of State has removed 1.2 million voters from the rolls this week, 300,000 of those were in the Houston area alone. Over 6% of registrations were suspended for a variety of reasons; mostly for dying or having moved out of state and changed their registration to elsewhere. But also because the state reached out by snail mail to verify an address or name change and didn't hear back. Or because the county mailed out a voter registration card and it was returned to sender. Or because of a clerical error or similar names to someone who moved or died. Knowing how cruddy our mail delivery is here, there is every chance people are unaware they've been contacted, or that their response didn't make it back to the county or state.

Please remind your new 18-year old voters to verify theirs. They're the ones most likely to have been contacted to verify something on their handwritten forms. It can be tough for the registrars to read the handwriting.

For those unaware, the President is coming to town tomorrow. Air Force One is slated to land at Ellington Field at 5pm-ish. Trump will be at Johnson Space Center on Friday to present awards to the Artemis 2 crew. Be prepared for congestion, slow moving motorcades, and temporary blockages. NASA Gate 2 (NASA Road 1) and Gate 3 (Space Center Blvd & NASA Road 1) will be closed Friday morning. I dont if this means ability to travel on these roads will be impacted by the closures.

This is not a political post, this is a heads up about events that may impact transit.
