Some of the best opportunities in Hawaii are never listed.

Nearly a year ago ESC Pacific began searching for a long-term home in Honolulu. We looked across downtown one by one and largely off market. The goal was simple. Find the right fit, not just an available building.

That search led to the historic Joseph W. Podmore Building. It will serve as ESC Pacific’s U.S. headquarters.

What makes this one meaningful is the history behind it.

Nearly 30 years ago Eric Newman acquired a Japanese company with roots tied to a sister company of C. Brewer & Co. That was one of Hawaii’s original Big Five companies that helped shape commerce across the Pacific. Today that same journey comes full circle with ESC Pacific establishing its next chapter in Hawaii.

And to do it in the Podmore Building on Merchant Street of all places feels especially fitting. This is the heart of Honolulu’s historic business district. Hawaii and Japan have shared deep business and cultural ties for generations. This transaction felt like a small reflection of that history.

Along the way a client relationship became a genuine friendship. Grateful to Eric and the entire ESC Pacific team for their trust throughout the process.

I love this market. Sometimes a deal is about a lot more than real estate.

Ah Japan… never ceases to amaze. Every visit feels a little different but somehow familiar. Markets evolve, cities boom, challenges shift, but the people, the culture, and the energy stay unmatched. From office visits to snow, surf, and Mt. Fuji in the mix, it’s a reminder of how much you can experience in one place. Always grateful for the perspective and the connections.
