Making a Home Your Own 🏡

One of the things I enjoy when I’m out touring homes is seeing how differently people use their space.

A home can reflect who you are and how you live. Old mixed with new. A room for working out. A place for hobbies. A great kitchen for gathering. A game room, home office, golf simulator — or even a favorite surfboard hanging from the ceiling.

And it doesn’t matter whether it’s your first home, a move-up home, or a place you’re downsizing into. No matter the budget, there are always ways to make a space feel like you.

That’s one of the things I enjoy about seeing so many homes — there’s always an idea worth sharing.

Knowing the Market Firsthand

Some weekends, there are only a few South Shore homes for me to tour. This weekend, I had 14 properties to see in one day!

After more than 40 years in real estate, I know how important it is to get inside these homes and see them for myself.

Photos, descriptions, and floor plans are helpful, but they can’t fully show how a home feels, how the rooms connect, what the setting is like, or what may be just around the corner.

This firsthand knowledge helps me recognize possibilities for buyers that may not be obvious online.

It is equally important when a homeowner asks me to help price and market a property. I don’t know the comparable homes only from statistics and listing sheets—I have often walked through them and understand what they really offered.

Sometimes, knowing the market means getting out there and seeing it one home at a time.

When Contemporary Is Your Style

Here in the Northeast, we see plenty of Colonials, Capes and traditional homes. A true contemporary is a little harder to find — so when contemporary is your style, finding the right one can be a challenge.

This one caught my attention right from the start.

Tucked at the end of a dead-end street in an otherwise typical suburban neighborhood, it was an unexpected find. That orange front door gives you the first hint that what’s inside might be a little different.

And it is.

Clean lines, interesting ceilings, wonderful artwork, unexpected pops of color, sleek bathrooms and spaces that feel modern without feeling cold.

What I especially liked was that the owners weren’t decorating for the next buyer. They created a home that reflected what they liked.

And maybe that’s what makes a home memorable.

Your home doesn’t have to appeal to everyone. It just has to feel like you.

Sometimes the right buyer is already out there — the job is making sure they know about the house.

53 Erikson Lane went live in MLS, and within 24 hours we had found the buyer who was the right fit for this very special property.

Before launch, I had already started quietly marketing it — reaching out within the real estate community, especially to agents who had recently listed or sold similar homes, and mailing to neighborhoods where likely move-up buyers might be thinking about their next move.

Nothing flashy. Just thoughtful, targeted marketing before the listing ever officially hit the market.

Every home is different, and every marketing plan should be too.
