Imagine working 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year, and still struggling to afford a modest two-bedroom apartment. Think about that for a moment! ๐ณ
๐ต Washington, D.C.โs minimum wage is $18.40 per hour.
Yet, using the common guideline that housing should cost no more than 30% of gross income, a single full-time worker earning that rate would have a housing budget of about $956.80 per month before considering other expenses.
Now imagine looking for a two-bedroom apartment when rents can be $1,500 or more a month. Actual rents vary by location, but the challenge is easy to understand.

This isnโt about blaming anyone. Working hard, being responsible, and managing money wisely all matter. But we also have to acknowledge when the numbers simply donโt add up.
๐ก As a Realtor, I believe housing is about more than buying and selling property. Itโs about whether people can realistically afford a place to call home.
We need honest conversations about housing costs, affordability, and the choices available to people at different income levels.
๐ What do you think? Is full-time work enough to afford a modest two-bedroom apartment today?
