Connecticut hospitality is in steep decline. In 1975, roughly half of Americans entertained guests monthly, compared with just 12% in 2026. Meanwhile, Americans spent nearly 120 additional minutes at home each day in 2022 compared with 2003. Construction worker Bobby Silva rescued her from the water, suffering a bite in the process. Despite a bruised lung, the kitten had no broken bones. After receiving care from New London Animal Control and veterinary professionals, Silva adopted her and named her Molly Carlson after the champion cliff diver.

The 1946 Plan to Transform Greenwich Into a World Capital

In 1946, Greenwich was the United Nations preferred location for its permanent headquarters. The proposed 42-square-mile international city would have spanned Greenwich, Stamford and neighboring towns. But influential residents, including the Rockefellers and Prescott Bush, opposed the plan. Greenwich voters rejected it nearly three to one, and the UN ultimately settled in Manhattan, aided by an $8.5 million donation from John D. Rockefeller Jr.

Greenwich Was the Hamptons Before the Hamptons

Before the Hamptons became a playground for the wealthy, Greenwich was already attracting New York’s elite. Railroad access beginning in 1848 helped transform the farming town into a summer destination known for its lavish estates, private yachts and exclusive clubs. From Boss Tweed’s extravagant Americus Club to Copper Beech Farm and Belle Haven, the legacy of Greenwich’s Gilded Age continues to shape one of America’s most expensive residential communities.

Yale University Leads Ivy League in Reported Rapes

Yale University recorded 27 reports of r**e in 2025, more than any other Ivy League school, according to federally mandated campus crime statistics. All 27 were reported in student residential facilities. The figure increased from 19 in 2024 but remained below the 56 reported in 2023. These statistics reflect reported incidents, not necessarily the prevalence of sexual assault. Differences in reporting practices and widespread underreporting complicate comparisons between institutions.
