This is Amanda from Ebenezer Free Lutheran Church - Northwood, ND, standing with our director, Elaina. She surprised us today with FIFTY brand new backpacks. 🎒

Ebenezer's youth group of about 50 kids packed each one with useful and thoughtful items: a blanket, water bottle, hat & gloves, Bible, and much more. The kids got to choose some of the items that went into each bag. They even wrote messages of faith and support for each one. 🥲

These will become precious possessions for people without a home. A bottle for when for when you're thirsty, a hat for when you're cold, a Bible for the moments you're short on hope...

So powerful to see what God does with little hands and big hearts. Thank you to Ebenezer Free Lutheran, Amanda Kolenda, and the Youth Group for your generosity. ❤

Banquet guests loved the beautiful classical music of the Red River Trio last year. We are excited to have them back as the musical entertainment this year at the Mission of Hope Banquet on Nov. 12th!

The trio features some of the very best musicians UND has to offer. Their performances take them across the Midwest and internationally to Japan each year. 🎻🎹

Lately, the pantry shelves have been almost bare. The food boxes are a bit smaller than we'd like. And that means things are a bit harder for the families who come here.

So we prayed. God, help these families, so the kids can go to school with full tummies and learn well, and so the parents can keep the heat on and go to bed without fear.🙏

We are seeing those prayers answered.

Generous people are stepping in, like the team and customers at Bloom Beauty Bar Grand Forks. We just picked up all this food from their donation drive. 🌞 Customers donated almost $700 in food, and the Bloom team MATCHED that with $700 in services donated!

Some other recent food drives came from the students at Schroeder Middle School and the GFPD Fraternal Order of Police. And individual people are helping too! A farmer stopped by the other day with extra squash from his garden.

So grateful to everyone who has been moved to give back in a time of need. May your days be blessed! ❤

A while back, Jackie walked out the Mission's front doors and disappeared. Two weeks later, he turned up at the hospital. He'd been on a drinking binge.

The doctor told him, "If you do this again, you aren't waking up."

He got a ride back to the Mission, intending to pick up his belongings and move on. "I thought my bags were going to get thrown at me," Jackie told us.

But that's not what happened.

Today, Jackie is sober. He has a job. Soon he'll have a home. And he's going to tell his story at the Mission of Hope Banquet on November 12th.

Join us to hear powerful stories like this one, told firsthand, during an evening of hope and celebration.

🎟️Tickets are on sale now at www.northlandsrescuemission.org/banquet. Couples receive $25 off.

6th graders, 7th graders, and 8th graders can be fierce rivals. Last week at Schroeder Middle School, that took a back seat to kindness. ☺️

Students from each grade worked together to collect this big pile of food for families in need. 👪 All of it will go into food boxes, helping people in our community make it through the month. ❤

Thank you to the Schroeder Sources of Strength club for leading this food drive, and to all who donated. Your generosity means that food boxes will be FULL of meat, pasta, veggies this week!

What are the chances? Last week, our van broke down. Total loss... Two days later, we got a call.

The old Red River Valley Community Action van hadn't sold at auction. It needed a new home. They thought of the Mission and didn't even know ours was broken!

Thanks to this development, there will be no delay in services. That means more food donations getting to the pantry and into the hands of families. Perhaps God was listening to their needs. ❤🙏
