The biggest mistake I see when people buy SEO services: paying every month and having no idea what they're getting.

One of our long-time clients, Beth Atalay, wrote that before working with us she'd spent thousands of dollars for minimal results and "always felt like I was just someone who paid them on a monthly basis."

That stuck with me. Here's what to avoid when hiring an SEO company:
- No audit up front. If they can't explain what's wrong with your site, how will they fix it?
- One-size-fits-all packages.
- No reporting, or reports you can't understand.
- No human you can actually talk to.

One of the biggest mistakes I made building Personal SEO: not valuing ourselves.

For years, I underpriced our work. I thought, "That only took me five minutes, how can I charge for it?"

Here's what I finally learned. People hire us because of the experience we have and the skill set we've built over 20 years. Something that takes me five minutes could take a client hours, or they might not know where to start at all.

They aren't paying for five minutes. They're paying for my skill, so they can save their time and spend it where it matters most: with their clients and their business.

If you run a service business, please hear this: your experience has value. The speed you've earned is part of what people are paying for.

One of my favorite reviews came from Steve Hamre, whose site runs on Sierra Interactive.

We added community pages to his website, and cleaned up the site, including backlink issues that were dragging down performance. In his words, the impact showed up in "enhanced engagement and traffic" after the update.

Community pages are one of the most underused tools in real estate SEO. Buyers don't just search "homes for sale." They search for the neighborhood they're dreaming about. If your site doesn't have a great page for that area, someone else's will.
