For a locally grown upgrade, head to Scenic Isle Farm in Coupeville. Their farm stand is open every day in October, with pumpkins in all sorts of shapes and sizes. The Sherman family has been farming this land for five generations, right in the heart of Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve.

Planning a bigger farm outing? October’s trolley rides and weekend activities run Friday–Sunday, 10 AM–5 PM. Bring boots and layers, and check the farm’s latest updates before heading out.

A little porch personality. A little support for a local family farm. That’s a pretty good October afternoon.

A few things to tackle before the weather settles in:
• Clear gutters and downspouts; hire a pro for ladder work.
• Check your heating system and clean or replace filters according to its manual.
• Check weatherstripping around doors and windows.
• Disconnect, drain, and store garden hoses before freezing weather.
