Happy Labor Day from all of us at 1st Rate Realty LLC.

In the United States, Labor Day is observed on the first Monday in September. It emerged during the late 19th century, a time when many workers faced long hours, unsafe conditions, low wages, and few legal protections. Labor organizations pushed for reforms such as:
The eight-hour workday
Safer workplaces
Fairer wages
The right to organize and bargain collectively
Protections against child labor
After years of labor activism, strikes, and public pressure, Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894.

The holiday carries several layers of meaning:

Recognition: It honors the work people do in every profession—from teachers and healthcare workers to construction workers, farmers, service employees, engineers, and countless others whose efforts keep society functioning.
Respect for workers' rights: It serves as a reminder that many workplace standards people now take for granted were achieved through decades of advocacy and collective action.
Rest: The holiday also reflects the idea that workers deserve time away from work to spend with family, recover, and enjoy life. Rest is part of respecting labor, not separate from it.
Reflection: It's an opportunity to consider both the progress that's been made and the challenges workers continue to face, such as wages, workplace safety, work-life balance, and evolving labor conditions.
Today, many people associate Labor Day with barbecues, travel, and the unofficial end of summer. Those traditions have become part of the holiday, but they grew around its original purpose rather than replacing it.

So, the "true meaning" of Labor Day isn't simply a day off from work—it's a day to acknowledge that the prosperity and functioning of society depend on the labor of millions of people, and to recognize the importance of treating workers with fairness, dignity, and respect.
