I love reading about Fort Worth history.

In 1907 a Fort Worth doctor built a seven story office building on a scrap of land so narrow that the front of it came to a point barely wide enough to stand in. 🏙️

Dr. Bacon Saunders was a surgeon who had seen the Flatiron Building in New York and decided Fort Worth deserved one of its own. The lot at Ninth and Houston was a leftover wedge where two streets crossed at an angle, the kind of ground nobody else wanted to build on. He put a steel frame up anyway, faced it in pale brick and terra cotta, and ran the walls right out to the point. His practice took the upper floors. At seven stories it was briefly the tallest thing in town, and people came downtown just to stand at the corner and look up.

Then the rest of downtown grew around it, and most of what grew came back down. Fort Worth cleared block after block of its early skyline across the twentieth century. The odd little wedge survived all of it, partly because nobody could work out what else you would put on a triangular lot that size. It is now the oldest surviving skyscraper in the city, and the steel skeleton inside it was among the first raised in Texas.

A building nobody wanted the land for outlasted everything put up on the good lots. 🧱

While several offices are being constructed around Fort Worth, downtown hasn't seen a new office tower since 2018. Brokers and developers recognize challenges remain when adding to Fort Worth's skyline, but believe the demand is there for a new office tower.

🔴 **Someone else’s property.** Fraudsters may copy photos and descriptions from legitimate listings and advertise homes they don’t own or have permission to rent.

🔴 **Pressure to pay immediately.** Be cautious if someone demands a deposit, application fee, or first month’s rent before you’ve verified the property and the person offering it.

🔴 **No in-person showing.** Excuses about being out of town, unavailable to meet, or needing to mail you the keys should raise concerns.

🔴 **Requests for unusual payment methods.** Be especially careful with wire transfers, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or other payments that are difficult to recover.
