Frisco is getting its first Trader Joe's.

The Frisco City Council unanimously approved a 9.4-acre mixed-use development at Majestic Gardens Drive and Main Street, anchored by a 12,500-square-foot Trader Joe's and paired with a 158-unit senior living facility. Trader Joe's first eyed Frisco back in October 2025; the project cleared Planning & Zoning in July, got tabled in August, and after two years of revisions (more parking, added green space, upgraded landscaping) finally got the green light on Oct. 6. The store and senior living will be built in a single phase, though there's no construction timeline yet.

Sought-after retailers and new housing options are exactly the kind of thing that keeps a community growing and keeps home demand strong.

From hobbit houses to reality TV, this local dreamer does it all.

Argyle entrepreneur Lance Autrey has built and sold businesses, developed private ranch communities, and launched Mirador in Mingus, Texas, an immersive storybook resort where guests stay in Texas Shire houses, ogre swamps, and a coal miner's cave, all built to scale. The idea sparked while he watched "Star Wars" and imagined staying in Yoda's hideaway. After befriending Jep Robertson of "Duck Dynasty," Autrey and Mirador are now featured in a new Great American Family reality series, "Beyond the Bayou with Jep and Jessica," airing this month.

Love seeing this kind of big, creative ambition coming out of our own corner of North Texas.

Spooky season just got a whole lot easier in Denton.

Denton is the Halloween Capital of Texas, and the city and DCTA have launched a weekend park-and-ride to help you skip the parking hassle. Park at Golden Triangle Mall and shuttle into the festivities through Nov. 8. For the Denton Day of the Dead Festival on Oct. 24, there's an extra shuttle running 10 a.m. to midnight. North Central Texas College is also offering public parking at 319 Sycamore St. on event days (Thu-Sun), though its garage closes during the festival Oct. 23-25. You'll find a full parking and attractions map on the Denton Halloween website or in person at Halloween HQ on the Square.

Fun, well-run community events like this are a huge part of what makes living in Denton so special.

Crispy chicken is coming to Denton.

375 Chicken 'N Fries, a halal fried chicken concept, is opening this October at 105 Ave. A, taking over the former Slap Burger space near the Square. The menu is stacked: fried chicken sandwiches, popcorn chicken drizzled with sauce, chicken over mac and cheese, wings, tenders, loaded fries, and 12-plus house-made sauces. It started as a small fry spot in NYC in 2016 and grew into a full chicken concept fried at (you guessed it) 375 degrees, with no added preservatives. This will be just the second Texas location after Arlington.

New spots like this keep our downtown buzzing, and that energy is a big part of what makes Denton such a fun place to live.

Denton is planning for growth the right way.

Denton ISD just acquired a 12-acre site for a new elementary school inside Landmark, the $10 billion master-planned community rising at I-35W and Robson Ranch Road. It's the first of three planned campuses there (two elementaries and a middle school), paid for with the district's 2023 voter-approved bond. Landmark broke ground in late 2025 and will eventually bring 6,000+ single-family homes, 3,000 multifamily units, and 1,100 acres of parks over a 40-year build-out, and officials say it could one day house 10% of Denton's residents.

Locking in school sites this early is a big deal. Strong, well-planned schools are one of the biggest things buyers look for, and they help hold home values over time.

pooky season hits different when your whole town is the Halloween Capital of Texas.

For its third year wearing that crown, the city of Denton partnered with local nonprofit Paper Chair Studios to launch the Denton Halloween Artist Mentorship Program. Co-founders and UNT alumni Delaney Smith and Joshua Bryant pair up-and-coming artists with established local creatives to build handmade Halloween installations for businesses around town. So those displays you will see downtown next month? Made right here.

The tastiest way to spend Halloween in Flower Mound. (fire + wh***ey emoji)

The 7th Annual Smoke & Wh***ey Fest returns Saturday, Oct. 31 on the Promenade at The RiverWalk, and it's North Texas' premier BBQ and wh***ey festival. Admission gets you sampling the People's Choice entries from a Texas-sized BBQ competition (brisket, ribs, chicken and more), plus live music and a big silent auction. Add a VIP or Combo ticket for the Wh***ey Corral, where you can taste a dozen-plus premium wh***eys and hit the cigar bar. Want to start early? Flurry's Friday Night Steak Out kicks the weekend off Oct. 30 with steak cooked to order.

Best part: it's all hosted by the Summit Club of Flower Mound and supports their community service work. Good food, good wh***ey, good cause.

Growth vs. gridlock: one Denton County town is choosing to wait.

The Town of Argyle approved a 90-day moratorium on new development along the FM 407 corridor between I-35W and Hwy 377, pressing pause mostly on commercial projects until road improvements catch up. Homeowners can still remodel, add a pool, or replace fencing, and projects already underway, including new Argyle ISD schools, will continue. The town plans to extend the pause until Denton County's FM 407 Breakout project widens the road. It is a real look at the growing pains that come with being one of the fastest growing areas in the country.
