Del Mar’s Shores Park could be getting a major refresh. 🌿

The Del Mar City Council recently supported moving a new concept design toward a final master plan for the 5.3-acre park on 9th Street between Stratford Court and Camino Del Mar.

The vision includes a refreshed ballfield and court, an ocean-view deck, a new two-story community building, event plaza, picnic areas, fitness and game spaces, open lawn, walking paths, children’s play areas, and continued shared use for off-leash dogs during designated hours.

It’s a great example of how the spaces around our homes help shape the way we experience a neighborhood. Parks, trails, gathering spaces, and access to the outdoors are all part of what makes coastal communities like Del Mar so special. 🌊

Our local shelters need a little extra help right now. 🐾

San Diego Humane Society recently reached a record number of adult dogs in its care, with 766 adult dogs in August and dog capacity reaching 162%. While more pets are being adopted, the number of dogs arriving continues to outpace those finding homes.

This hits close to home here in North County. The San Diego Humane Society’s Oceanside campus serves several of our coastal communities, including Carlsbad, Del Mar, Encinitas, Oceanside, and Solana Beach.

If you have been considering adopting or fostering, this could be a wonderful time to help. Adoption fees for dogs and cats have also been reduced to $50 through the end of September. 🐶

Not ready to adopt? Fostering, volunteering, sharing adoptable pets, or participating in programs that give shelter dogs some time outside their kennels can make a difference too.

Sometimes supporting our community simply means showing up where help is needed. ❤️

A Carlsbad development that looked like it was moving forward is officially on hold. 👀

The proposed 33-unit mixed-use project on Roosevelt Street, approved by the Planning Commission earlier this year, has now been withdrawn by the developer.

Does that mean a revised project is coming? Will something completely different take its place? For now, we wait and see.

In Oceanside, a coastal wetland restoration project is quietly reshaping a place where neighborhood life, habitat, and the shoreline meet. 🌿

The Loma Alta Slough Wetlands Enhancement Project is focused on restoring a coastal wetland at the mouth of Loma Alta Creek in South Oceanside. The Southern California Wetlands Recovery Project describes it as a current restoration effort led by the City of Oceanside Water Utilities Department, with work intended to improve water quality, increase wetland coverage, restore habitat for native species, and create new recreational opportunities.

The project area includes about 5.8 acres of City-owned property, with plans for restored wetlands, tidal channels, elevated berms, and habitat planting. The project also includes a future public trail system north of the restored wetlands to improve outdoor access and connection between the beach and the Coast Highway corridor.

For homeowners and buyers, updates like this are a helpful reminder that neighborhood value is not only about the home itself. It is also about open space, environmental care, walkability, coastal access, and the long-term planning that supports everyday life.
