Wolter Legacy Ranch Wolter Legacy Ranch is a 171 acre ranch located on the Lavaca River in Jackson County between Edna and Vanderbilt, Texas. Their dream had now become reality.

The ranch is home to Clay and Scarlett Wolter and their kids; Lauren & Hunter Wolter. We raise beefmaster and crossbred cattle. Wolter Legacy Ranch was dream that started back in the late 1980s when Clay was growing up on his father's and grandfather's farm and ranch. Clay went to college to pursue a BS degree in Wildlife Management and a masters degree in Rangeland Management. Clay then went on to manage one of the largest ranches in South Texas (Kenedy Ranch) and worked there for 10 years. Clay then moved on to work for Helena Agri-Enterprises. LLC as a Range and Pasture Specialist where he continues to consult with landowners on their habitat and ranch management needs. During his travels across Texas, Clay met his beautiful wife Scarlett, and they resided in Boerne, Texas for almost 10 years. Scarlett is a Real Estate Broker Associate and has been in the real estate business for over 20 years. While living in Boerne, Clay and Scarlett began their family with a daughter, Lauren; and a couple years later their son, Hunter, was born. Overtime Clay's dream became the family's dream of owning their own ranch and raising their family in the country. It just so happened that the dream brought them back to the area Clay grew up. In 2020, the Wolter family found the 171 acre ranch and home on Koop Loop in Jackson County. Clay continues to work with Helena and Scarlett continues to sell real estate but their love is being able to raise their family on the Ranch and manage their small herd of registered Beefmaster cattle and their horse Flash. The family also enjoys hunting and fishing in the Lavaca river that is the East boundary of the ranch. Our Beefmaster cow herd started with 4 bred registered heifers and 1 registered bull. Our goal is to grow our herd and market registered show animals for kids to use for livestock shows and for producers to have purebred seedstock in their cattle operations.

What Has Your Heart?

Today’s Passage
Matthew 6:19-34

Photo verse Matthew 6:33

In Matthew 6, Jesus is teaching us a valuable lesson about the heart.

He begins by talking about treasure. The things we value most have a way of pulling our hearts toward them. That is why Jesus tells us to lay up treasures in heaven. He is teaching us to invest our lives in things that have eternal value rather than things that will one day pass away.

The things of this world may have value for a season, but they cannot last forever. Careers, accomplishments, possessions, hobbies, and recreation can become misplaced treasures if we allow them to take God’s rightful place in our hearts. But the treasures that have eternal value are Christ, His kingdom, His Word, and the people we invest in for His glory.

What we treasure affects what captures our attention. If our hearts are fixed on earthly things, those things often become our focus. But when our hearts are fixed on God and His kingdom, it changes how we see everything else.

And that is why no one can serve two masters. Whatever has our hearts and our attention will eventually influence our decisions, and before long it can begin to master us without us even realizing it.

It is no surprise that Jesus eventually talks about worry. When our hope is tied to temporary things, we naturally worry about losing them. Our joy begins to rise and fall with our circumstances because our treasure is tied to them. But when our treasure is in Christ and His kingdom, we can trust Him with tomorrow because our treasure is secure.

As you read this section, Jesus seems to keep bringing us back to the same question:

What has your heart?

That can be an uncomfortable question, but it’s one worth asking. It invites us to honestly examine what we treasure, what captures our attention, and what is shaping our lives.

Jesus is not merely teaching about money, possessions, or anxiety. He is helping us examine what we truly value, pursue, and trust.

That is why He ends by saying:

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

Let’s Pray

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that the things of this world are temporary, but Your kingdom is eternal. Help us to treasure You above everything else and to keep our hearts focused on what matters most. Protect us from allowing temporary things to pull our attention away from You. Teach us to seek first Your kingdom, trust You with tomorrow, and find our joy in Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The Example We Set

Today’s Passage: Proverbs 22:6

Highlighted Verse:

“Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.”
— Proverbs 22:6

Have we ever really stopped to think about what Proverbs 22:6 means when it tells us to train up a child “in the way he should go”?

There’s a lot we want to teach children as they grow up. We want them to make good decisions, develop good character, work hard, and become responsible adults. Those are all worthwhile things, and much of our time and attention goes toward preparing them for those responsibilities.

But there’s something far more important than simply preparing them to make their way in this world. We want them to know the Lord, to love His Word, and to understand what it means to walk in obedience to Him. The wisdom they need for life begins with the fear of the Lord, and that’s a foundation worth building upon from an early age.

Of course, that kind of training involves instruction, correction, patience, and encouragement. There will be plenty of opportunities to teach them what Scripture says and help them understand how it applies to their lives. But there’s another part of that training that happens even when we aren’t intentionally teaching them anything.

Children are watching us. They see what matters to us, what gets our time, what excites us, and what we’re willing to sacrifice for. Over time, they’re learning something about our faith, not just from what we tell them, but from where it ranks in our priorities and how it affects our lives.

And that brings us back to the way we’re trying to teach them to go. Are we simply pointing them in the right direction, or are we showing them the way through how we live?

Let’s pray,

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for our children and for the young people You place in our lives. Give us wisdom to teach them Your truth and faithfulness to live according to Your Word. Help us to follow Christ in such a way that they can look to our lives and see an example worth following. May our words and our actions point them toward You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Bread in the Wilderness

Today’s Passage: Luke 9:7–17

Highlighted Verse:

“Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the multitude.”
— Luke 9:16

By this point, news about Jesus had spread far enough that even Herod was hearing about everything that was happening. Some thought John the Baptist had risen from the dead, while others believed one of the old prophets had appeared. All of this had Herod asking a question Luke has been steadily answering throughout his Gospel: “Who is this?”

Soon after, the apostles returned from their mission and went with Jesus toward Bethsaida, but the crowds followed them.

Jesus welcomed the people, spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who needed healing.

And as the day began to end, the disciples noticed a problem. They were in a deserted place with thousands of people and almost no food. So they urged Jesus to send the people away so they could find food and lodging. But He said to them, “You give them something to eat.”

They responded that all they had were five loaves and two fish.

Jesus then told them to have the people sit down. He took the food, looked up to heaven, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to the disciples to distribute. Everyone ate and was satisfied, and when the meal was over, twelve baskets of leftovers remained.

There is something worth slowing down to see in that scene. God had fed His people in the wilderness, and now Jesus stands in a deserted place feeding thousands until everyone is satisfied. Five loaves and two fish become enough for the entire crowd, with twelve baskets still remaining when everyone has eaten.

This comes right after Herod asks, “Who is this?” which is the very question Luke has been answering one passage at a time.

Jesus has shown His authority over sickness, demons, creation, and death. Now, in the wilderness, He provides bread for thousands.

And Luke is still revealing who Jesus is, because just a few verses later, Jesus will turn to His disciples and ask the question directly: “But who do you say that I am?”

Let’s pray,

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for continuing to show us who Jesus is through Your Word. Help us not to rush past what You have shown us about Him. Open our eyes to His compassion, His authority, and the signs that reveal more of who He truly is. As we continue reading, help us know Christ more clearly and trust Him more deeply. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Sent to Preach the Kingdom

Today’s Passage: Luke 9:1–6

Highlighted Verse:

“Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.”
— Luke 9:1–2

For some time, the disciples had been following Jesus, listening to His teaching and watching Him minister to people. They had seen His authority over sickness, demons, the wind and waves, and even death. Now Jesus calls the twelve together and sends them out to do the work they had watched Him do.

He gives them power and authority over demons and diseases and sends them to preach the kingdom of God and heal the sick.

As they go, Jesus tells them not to take extra provisions for the journey. They are to travel without a staff, bag, bread, money, or an extra tunic and depend on God to provide for them through the people who receive them.

Jesus also prepares them for the fact that not everyone will receive their message. If a town refuses them, they are to leave and shake the dust from their feet as a testimony against them. They are responsible for faithfully carrying the message Jesus gave them, but they are not responsible for how everyone responds.

Luke tells us that they went through the towns preaching the gospel and healing everywhere. What they had seen Jesus do and heard Him teach was now being carried into other places through the work He had given them.

This was a specific mission given to the twelve, but there are still truths here that matter for us. Christ remains the authority behind the work of His people, and our responsibility is to be faithful with what He has given us to do without trying to control how others respond.

Let’s pray,

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the work You give Your people to do and for reminding us that it all belongs to Christ. Help us to serve faithfully, depend on You for what we need, and keep our attention on what You have called us to do. When people respond differently than we hoped, help us leave those results in Your hands and continue to be faithful. Keep us humble and dependent on You as we serve. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Living Before the Lord

Today’s Passage: Proverbs 15

Highlighted Verse:

“The eyes of the LORD are in every place, Keeping watch on the evil and the good.”
— Proverbs 15:3

Proverbs 15 moves through a lot of everyday parts of life. It talks about the way we speak, how we respond to correction, and what is happening in our hearts. It also looks at the choices we make and the kind of life those choices are producing.

Right near the beginning, we are reminded why all of those things matter:

“The eyes of the LORD are in every place, Keeping watch on the evil and the good.”

God sees every part of our lives. He hears the words we speak, knows what is behind them, and sees how we respond when someone corrects us. He sees whether pride is leading us or whether we are willing to listen and grow in wisdom.

As the chapter continues, that truth reaches even deeper. Our hearts and our thoughts are open before the Lord.

That reaches into every part of an ordinary day. The way we speak, the way we treat people, how we respond when corrected, and the decisions we make all matter before Him because none of it is hidden from His sight.

That is sobering when we think about the things we would rather keep hidden, but it should also encourage us. The Lord sees the quiet obedience, the right choice made when no one else would know the difference, and the faithfulness that may never receive any recognition.

Knowing that God sees both the outward action and the heart behind it should move us toward a life of honesty and integrity before Him. We do not have to wonder whether the small choices matter or whether quiet faithfulness is noticed. The Lord sees it all, and wisdom calls us to live every part of our lives with that truth in mind.

Let’s pray,

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You see every part of our lives clearly. Help us to live honestly and faithfully before You. Guard our words, our thoughts, our hearts, and the choices we make. When You show us something in our hearts or lives that needs to change, help us not to hide from it but to bring it honestly before You and turn from it. Give us humility when we are corrected, wisdom in the decisions before us, and faithfulness even in the things no one else may ever notice. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
