Slide to the left. Slide to the right. Criss cross. Everybody clap your hands!

If you just heard those instructions in your head, congratulations. You're exactly the audience we're looking for.

Back in the early 2000s, DJ Casper's "Cha Cha Slide" somehow convinced entire rooms of people to follow instructions from a man they had never met.

And we did. Every single time.

We're bringing those memories back at **Back to the Future Bash: An Epic ’90s & Y2K Throwback!**

Saturday, September 25, 2027, at Edenton Commons.

Now for the important question: When DJ Casper says, "How low can you go?" are you still dropping to the floor, or have you reached the age where getting back up requires a plan and possibly assistance?

One week to go.

On Halloween, the sidewalk in front of Edenton Commons will look very different for a few hours Halloween night. We’re bringing the Hundred Acre Wood to South Broad Street with candy, photos, bouncing, honey tossing and a few surprises along the way. Halloween is for kids of all ages.

Is anyone else dressing up as a Hundred Acre Wood friend? Leave us a 🐻, 🐯, 🐷 or 🦉 in the comments.

Remember when you had to wait until 9 PM for free nights and weekends on your cell phone? When burning the perfect CD was practically an art form? And when your biggest concern was making sure nobody picked up the house phone while you were online?

Those were the days. Well, some of them.

On Saturday, September 25, 2027, we're turning back the clock at Edenton Commons for **Back to the Future Bash: An Epic ’90s & Y2K Throwback!**

We're talking Britney, NSYNC, TLC, Nirvana, Outkast, Destiny's Child, and all those songs you haven't heard in years but somehow still know every word to.

Come dressed for your favorite decade, enjoy great food and cocktails, and dance like nobody has a camera phone. (Unfortunately, they do now.)

Doors open at 5:30 PM, and the party starts at 6:00 PM.

Here's a question that might start an argument: Which decade had better music—the '90s or the 2000s? Defend your answer in the comments!

A BIG, BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has already purchased tickets to an Edenton Commons event!

These early sales mean more than you know. They're critical to getting us off on the right foot, building momentum, and, let's be honest, keeping the bank happy!

And we'd like to show our appreciation!

Everyone who has purchased a ticket as of this post will be entered into a drawing for some Edenton Commons merchandise, arriving in December!

We'll draw again on October 31st, and everyone who has purchased a ticket by then will be entered.

That means our earliest supporters get TWO chances to win!

**Haven't bought your tickets yet? Now's the time!** Take a look at our upcoming events, pick your favorites, and get your tickets before October 31st to be included in our next drawing. You'll have something great to look forward to, a chance to win some exclusive merchandise, and you'll be helping Edenton Commons get off to a strong start!

Thank you for believing in us before we've even opened our doors. It means more than we can say!

A special thank you to Karen Foley and Edenton Social Light for sharing the story behind Edenton Commons in the article *“Edenton Commons: Creating a Place to Connect.”*

Karen took the time to explore not just what we're building at 213 South Broad Street, but why we're building it in the first place. And that distinction means a great deal to us.

What began as a few neighbors gathering in a driveway during the pandemic has grown into something considerably larger. Admittedly, renovating a former department store was not part of the original driveway gathering agenda.

We are also grateful for the encouragement we've received from the Town of Edenton, Chowan County, our neighbors and the many people who have taken an interest in this project. That support has meant more than you know, particularly on the days when the building seems determined to test our commitment.

Our hope is that Edenton Commons will become more than an entertainment venue. We want it to be a place where people connect, friendships grow, local businesses benefit and our community finds more reasons to come together.

Karen's article tells that story beautifully, and we're grateful she chose to share it.

Midnight at The Garden: A New Year’s Eve Celebration just got even better.

We’re excited to announce that Main Street Edenton will be the charity partner for this year’s celebration.

If you’ve spent any time downtown, you’ve already seen some of what Main Street Edenton helps make possible. They support local businesses and property owners, invest in the preservation and improvement of our historic downtown through programs like façade grants, help create and strengthen commercial spaces, and bring people downtown through events including Boogie on Broad and RockFish Fest. They were also part of the collaborative effort that transformed an aging former gas station into today’s Edenton Farmers Market.

That sounds like exactly the kind of organization we want to toast at midnight.

Edenton Commons will make a minimum $2,000 donation to Main Street Edenton from Midnight at The Garden: A New Year’s Eve Celebration—and if we sell out, we will donate another $1,000 for good measure!

So yes, you can dress up, eat well, have a drink, dance until midnight, and start 2027 with the wildly optimistic belief that this will finally be the year you keep all those ambitious New Year’s resolutions.

But you’ll also be helping invest right back into downtown Edenton. We think that makes the sparking drinks taste a little better.

Think we can find Joe and Steven? We have a few questions. Mostly about paneling.

Sometime between 1949 and today, the mezzanine office at what is now Edenton Commons was enclosed. When we started removing the paneling, we found what appears to be Joe and Steven’s signatures in the adhesive. Steven’s paneling was a different color and hung over Joe’s, which makes us think we’re looking at two different eras of office improvements. Apparently, the answer to wood paneling was once.... more .....wood .... paneling.

A last name or a date would have been useful, gentlemen, but we appreciate you signing your work. Do you know a Joe or Steven who might have worked here? Or remember when the mezzanine office was enclosed or updated? Tag someone who might know, share this post, or tell us what you remember. We’d love to put a few more names and dates to this building’s history.
