School starts TODAY! Will you take the pledge to support Detroit students' attendance? https://www.firstdaydetroit.org/

Recent studies have shown that 2 out of 3 Detroit students are currently considered to be chronically absent, but what does that mean?

It means that 10% of class time throughout the course of the school year is missed for any number of reasons including; both excused and unexcused absences, and suspension. While 10% doesn’t sound like much, missing just two days a month of class time adds up to that 10%.

When students miss 10% of the school year they are more likely to:

Not read at grade level by 3rd grade
Drop out of high school
Not build good habits for the workplace
