At 100 years old, David Attenborough has made television history, becoming the oldest person ever nominated for a Primetime Emmy.

And he didn’t receive just one nomination. Attenborough earned two nominations for Outstanding Narrator: one for “Ocean with David Attenborough” and another for “A Gorilla Story: Told by David Attenborough.”

His connection with nature broadcasting stretches back more than seven decades. Across that career, his voice has introduced generations to everything from deep oceans and tropical forests to polar ecosystems and the lives of some of Earth’s rarest animals.

The Television Academy lists 14 Primetime Emmy nominations for Attenborough and three wins. He also holds the record for the most nominations in the Outstanding Narrator category.

“Ocean with David Attenborough” received six Emmy nominations overall, including recognition for documentary filmmaking, cinematography, music and sound. Its cinematography and sound editing went on to win Emmys.

Few careers have connected the public with the natural world for this long. At 100, Attenborough is still doing what he has spent much of his life doing: bringing the extraordinary story of life on Earth into millions of homes.

In 1934, rising water behind a new San Diego dam swallowed a Kumeyaay homeland that had been legally protected for more than half a century. 🌊

The Capitan Grande Reservation, established in 1875, sat along the San Diego River in a valley the city wanted for water storage. Construction of El Capitan Dam began in the 1920s, and by 1934 the reservoir behind it had risen high enough to submerge the reservation's villages, farmland, and cemeteries, forcing the Kumeyaay families who lived there to leave the valley their community had occupied for generations.

The displaced band split. Some relocated to a new reservation called Barona, others to Viejas, both purchased with settlement funds the city was required to pay for the land it flooded. Both communities still trace their lineage directly back to Capitan Grande, and the original reservation land, now underwater, technically remains part of their tribal trust land to this day, even though no one has lived there in over ninety years.

Macklemore has gained nearly 1.5 million Instagram followers in less than two days, amid his ongoing public support for Palestine.

I think what makes this moment interesting is how quickly Macklemore’s recent stance has brought renewed attention to him.

He has been publicly advocating for Palestinians for years, including releasing “Hind’s Hall” in 2024 and using his platform to call for Palestinian freedom.

52-year-old Saidal Rahman from Paktia brings his daughters to school every morning. Because traveling alone isn’t safe, he walks beside them through steep hills and dusty roads… and then waits outside for 4 hours until their classes finish.

He says every step is worth it if it means giving them a brighter future.

A true reminder that a parent’s love can move mountains.
