Homeowners Report Greater Financial Satisfaction
When it comes to building long-term financial confidence, the numbers continue to support what many of my clients have experienced firsthand: nearly 70% of homeowners report feeling financially satisfied, compared to less than 50% of nonhomeowners. While it’s true that homeownership isn’t a magic fix—over 40% of owners in the survey still lived paycheck to paycheck, compared to just over 60% of nonowners—the advantage becomes clearer over time. Owning a home creates a path to equity growth and broader wealth accumulation that goes beyond month-to-month budgeting. In fact, research shows buying by age 30 can mean a net worth that’s about 23% higher by age 50, or roughly $119,000 more. Of course, smart planning is key: stretching your budget too far to buy, especially if housing eats up 30% to 40% of your income, can squeeze your savings and other priorities. As someone who’s guided buyers, sellers, and investors through every kind of market, I always focus on helping clients balance today’s realities with tomorrow’s opportunities. Homeownership isn’t just about a place to live—it’s a foundation for your financial future, and preparation makes all the difference.
