Bill Anderson turns 89 today, and country music owes this man more than we could ever repay.
He was born in Columbia, South Carolina, in 1937, and songwriting is what led him to Nashville. "I came here as a songwriter. That's what brought me to town," he shared this summer.
His songs carried other stars to the top, from Ray Price's ‘City Lights’ to Connie Smith's ‘Once a Day.’ Decades later, he co-wrote Wh***ey Lullaby and Give It Away.
This past July, he became the first artist in Opry history to reach 65 years as a member.
Thank you for every song, Bill. We're celebrating you today.
