If you know Tyler, you know hunting has never just been about killing a deer.
It’s the preparation. The anticipation. The work that happens long before opening day. It’s family. It’s memories. And it’s being outside, away from the noise, where he’s always said he feels closest to God.
This buck was one Tyler and his family had watched, fed, monitored and worked to pattern leading into Ohio bow season.
Then the season opened.
Five days into bow season, on Tyler’s third sit, it all came together.
All three hunts were “hang and hunts”—walking in with his tree saddle setup, picking the tree based on what the deer were doing, climbing in and hunting it right then.
On that third setup, Tyler was able to capitalize with the buck standing just 12 yards away.
But the story behind this deer is about more than how close he was or how quickly it happened.
Every time Tyler climbed a tree to hunt this buck, his prayer wasn’t, “God, help me kill this deer.”
It was:
“I’ve done the preparation. You know the desires of my heart. I’m giving the hunt, the experience and the outcome to You. Show me what You have for me.”
And when he heard that buck crash, the first words out of his mouth were simply:
“Thank You, Lord.”
Not just for the deer.
For the experience.
For a wife who has supported him chasing his passions since they started dating 20 years ago. For his girls and a family who embrace the chaos that comes along with him. For land to steward, memories to make, and a place where he can slow down long enough to listen.
Around here, we talk about legacy a lot.
We buy land. We improve land. We sell land.
But this is why we believe so deeply in what land can become.
A piece of dirt can become the place where your kids grow up. Where stories get told for the next 30 years. Where you watch a buck all summer and finally meet him at 12 yards. Where you sit alone in a tree and have conversations with God that nobody else will ever hear.
And apparently, it can also become the place where a grown man decides that normal harvest photos are entirely too boring. 😂
If you’ve made it to the pictures by now, you’ll understand.
We’re calling these Tyler’s contribution to bringing a little fun back to the sport.
Because as seriously as he takes the preparation, the hunt, the animal and what the experience means to him, anybody who knows Tyler knows he’s probably going to find a way to have some fun with it too.
That’s Tyler.
And honestly, that’s Legacy Acres.
Work hard. Take care of the land. Appreciate what God has given you. Make memories with the people you love.
And don’t take yourself too seriously while you’re doing it.
Congratulations to our founder, Tyler Markham, on an incredible Ohio buck, an even better story behind him…
…and quite possibly the most Tyler harvest pictures we’ve ever seen.
Buy land. Build legacy.
