Congratulations to one of my longtime friends and mentors, who I’m now fortunate enough to call a client!
Almost 20 years ago, I sat down with Alan and his daughter Lauren in his office at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. I was 19, hoping for a chance to become a licensed funeral director. Little did I know how much that conversation would shape my life.
Alan gave me that chance, and for the next 12 years, he kept showing up for me. He offered guidance, constructive criticism when I needed it, and taught me so much about leadership and what it means to show up for others. Williams Funeral Home gave me more than a career. It gave me people who became family, not by blood.
When I decided to pursue real estate, Alan could have been disappointed about losing an employee. Instead, he encouraged me, wished me well, and told me he was proud of me. We still talk almost every single day, even if it's only for a few minutes. He's still showing up for me! We've since worked together on several real estate transactions, including the successful closing of one of his most recent Mt. Pleasant renovations.
Alan, I appreciate your continued trust and friendship, but most importantly, I'll never forget you taking a chance on that 19-year-old sitting in your office all those years ago.
Some people make a difference in your life simply by showing up.
No closing photo, but I am sharing some throwbacks!
