Hanging art at the perfect height transforms a space instantly, here’s the simple rule most people overlook. 🖼️
The classic guideline is to place the center of your picture about 57 - 60 inches from the floor, right around eye level for most adults. But this isn’t set in stone. In rooms where people sit, like living areas or offices, pictures often look better a bit lower so they connect naturally with seated sight lines. Adjust for mantelpieces, furniture, or tall ceilings to ensure the artwork feels part of the space instead of floating above it. 👀
Every wall is unique, so step back and look at the overall room scale, surrounding pieces, and where natural light falls. Protect your art by avoiding direct sunlight, and use a spirit level plus two hooks for a stable, straight result. For galleries or clusters, lay everything out on the floor first and let the biggest piece lead. Sometimes, breaking symmetry creates the most welcoming walls.
