A little behind the scenes on what life has been like in my world lately.

Here is my October Report!! 🙌🏻

Reading: Contrapposto by Dave Eggers. It currently has my full attention!

Eating: Chocolate chip cookies from . The stacked cookies are something else entirely. Go and thank me later.

Preparing: I'm so excited for sweater weather! Fall is my favorite season and I am fully leaning into it.

On My Radar: I'm closely watching the lending rule changes and how they are going to affect condo sales in Chicago.

Recommending: on North Avenue, a tried and true for 25 years. Order the white pizza with clam and bacon, and pair it with one of their award winning b**rs. You will NOT regret it.

Thankful: High school football season is underway. My son is a freshman at and watching him out there is giving me all the feels.

That is my October in a nutshell.

What about you? Let me know in the comments.

None of these will end up on your Pinterest board. And that is the whole point.

The upgrades everyone talks about are the ones that photograph well. The ones that pay you back are the ones an inspector finds, your utility bill proves, and the buyer's agent points out from the car.

Not sure which of these makes sense for your house and your timeline? That is a ten minute conversation. Send me a message.

Speaking it into existence for you.

The first five come down to preparation and a little luck. The last one is why I do this job at all.

What are we manifesting for you? Comments are open.

You would be surprised what buyers notice without knowing they noticed.

Nobody leaves a showing saying the outlet covers were dirty. They leave saying it felt a little tired.

These changes are how we make sure your home never gets described that way, and none of them require a contractor. This is exactly the list I build for my sellers before we photograph anything.

Want yours? Send me a message.

You can renovate almost anything about a house. The one thing you can't renovate is where it sits.

An outdated kitchen in Bucktown is a project. The wrong block is a five-to-seven-year commitment to a life that doesn't fit.

That's why I tell my buyers to fall in love with the neighborhood first and let the house be negotiable.

You can renovate a kitchen, but you can't change whether you can walk to Holstein Park with coffee on a Sunday morning. And if the Blue Line is a fifteen-minute walk on a beautiful day in September, it's also a fifteen-minute walk on single-digit day in February, forever.

So when my buyers tour in Bucktown, I ask them to grade the two things separately. The house gets judged on bones and budget: what it is versus what it could be.

The block gets judged on exactly what it is today, because that part isn't changing.

A good house on a great block will make you happier for longer than a great house on a wrong one, every single time.

Hi, I'm Jennifer Riccolo DeBower, a real estate advisor in Chicago. I help people buy and sell their homes when a new baby is on the way, when a job change shifts everything, when the kids leave, and the house suddenly feels too big, or when you just finally decide it is time.

I spent a decade practicing law before getting into real estate, which taught me to be analytical, detail-oriented, and prepared. I bring that same mindset to every transaction.

I love working in Chicago because every neighborhood has its own personality and there is a place here for so many different ways of living.

Right now I am obsessing over the idea of making the very best out of this one life we get. How can we optimize our lives for enjoyment and happiness? How can we fold in more fulfilling relationships and take advantage of this phenomenal city?

Whether you are curious about the market or just want to talk real estate, I am always happy to chat. Say hi below or send me a DM.

Right now it might be the down payment fund that grows slower than you want. The lease you signed one more time. The listings you save at midnight knowing you are not calling anyone yet.

None of that is waiting. All of it is buying a house in Chicago. These are just the early chapters.

The buyers who get there are not the ones who rushed. They are the ones who kept going and turned the someday into a plan a little before they felt ready.

Whenever you want to have that conversation, it is free, there is no timeline attached, and it is my favorite one to have.

More and more buyers and sellers are running things by AI before they call me, and I get it.

It's fast, it's free, and it'll answer at midnight. As a starting point, it's genuinely useful. Ask it how closing works, what a contingency is, what homes in your range have been selling for. But that's where it should stay: a starting point.

It can hand you a number. It can't tell you if that number makes sense for this street, what a seller will actually accept, or when to push and when to hold back.

That part isn't information you can look up. It's judgment, and it's earned.

So use the tool. And when you're ready for the part AI can't do, that's where I come in.

This one is personal to me.

I help my clients buy and sell homes for a living, but it's not lost on me what an incredible privilege it is to be able to have a home to call your own.

Women Build Habitat for Humanity Chicago is changing that. ()

On October 7 we are hosting a happy hour fundraiser at to help more families and individuals achieve their dream of homeownership.

Expect an open b**r bar, taco bar, live music from the Golden Fiddle Band, a raffle. Kids and dogs are welcome.

🎟️ Tickets are $60.

Hope to see you there!

Ranked all the smart home upgrades so you don't have to.

The good ones are the ones you will wonder how you lived without. The better ones are the ones that actually do something for you, and one of them might even lower your insurance bill. And the last category? Pure joy, zero justification needed.

If you have been meaning to upgrade something and did not know where to start, save this post.

What is the smart home feature you cannot live without? Tell me in the comments because I am always looking for the next one worth adding.
