Chicago is known for its amazing architecture, so Open House Chicago is quite a treat for architecture, design and real estate nerds. I dig music and art too, so here are some spots that are high on my list...
β€Œ
Uptown Theatre: A 4,400 seat movie palace that hosted its last show in 1981 (J. Geils Band). Getting inside the auditorium is a once in a lifetime kind of thing.
Electrical Audio: Steve Albini’s legendary recording studio in Avondale. A number of indie & alternative bands have recorded here... including Foo Fighters.
Albany-Carroll Arts Building: A converted industrial building in Garfield Park full of working artist studios. Also new to OHC. (Saturday only)
Auditorium Theatre: Adler & Sullivan’s 1889 masterpiece. Those gold arches never get old.
β€Œ
Bonus spots…
Smashed Plastic Record Pressing: New this year! A look at how vinyl actually gets made.
Mana Contemporary: A 1926 ComEd warehouse in Pilsen turned art hub with a Gothic style tower. Cool. (Saturday only)
Fine Arts Building: Art Nouveau murals, a hidden courtyard, and 140 years of artists, musicians and writers.
β€Œ
It’s free, no registration needed, and there are 200+ sites across the city on October 17 and 18. If you’re heading out, tell me your must-sees!

It’s race weekend in Chicago, and you can feel the energy all over the city. I somehow survived 7 Chicago Marathons, but I’m just a spectator these days.

Running 26.2 miles is quite the (crazy) way to tour the city and these 4 neighborhoods alway seem to stand out...

Lakeview East: The crowds here are ROWDY in a great way. It’s early in the race, and the energy is contagious.

Old Town: Cruising down Wells is always a vibe, with the bars keeping spectators well fueled with mimosas.

Pilsen: Another high energy hood on the back half. Always some amazing food smells and fun music cruising through this stretch as your legs really stark barking.

Chinatown: It’s the last blast of big crowds before you hit the real daunting final 4 miles. Running under the Chinatown gate down Wentworth is iconic... and also a blur at this point.

What I’ve learned from the marathon: pacing beats panic. Start steady, trust the plan, and let the energy of your supporters lift you up. It’s pretty good advice for buying a home, too.

Running Sunday or cheering? Tell me your favorite spot on the course πŸ‘‡

Choosing a Chicago neighborhood isn’t just about finding a nice place to live.

It’s about finding the one that actually fits your life right now!

A few areas I’d look at:

Wicker Park / Logan Square > walkable, social, and full of energy

West Loop / River North > great for career-focused buyers who want convenience and dining nearby

Bucktown / Lincoln Park > lively, but with more neighborhood feel and long-term potential

The right neighborhood should be a fit for both your daily life and stage in life.

Not sure which Chicago neighborhood fits your life right now?

One of the biggest truths about selling a home is that it’s not just about putting it on the market.

The homes that sell quickly usually have a clear strategy behind them: the right price, the right presentation, and marketing that actually speaks to the buyer most likely to want that home.

Because if the positioning is off, even a good home can sit longer than expected.

What do you think about this?

Price per square foot is one of those numbers buyers love to compare… but it doesn’t always tell the full story.

It can be helpful, especially when you’re comparing very similar homes, same building, layout, condition, views and finishes.

That’s when it can give you a decent sense of whether something feels high or low for the market.

But it matters a lot less when the home lives completely differently.

A better layout, more natural light, outdoor space, higher ceilings, nicer finishes, or better views can completely change how a home feels day to day.

So yes, price per square foot matters but only in the right context.

Still have questions about pricing or how to compare homes?

A lower rate sounds great, but if home prices rise or more buyers jump back into the market, you may end up competing harder and paying more than expected.

That’s why I tell buyers… The goal isn’t to time the market perfectly.

The goal is to understand your numbers, know what you can comfortably afford, and be prepared when the right home comes up

Still have questions about buying in this market?

Drop them in the comments… I’m happy to help.

The housing market isn’t simply β€œhot” or β€œcool” right now… it depends on where you live.

National headlines talk about price cuts and slowing demand, but here in Chicago, many well-priced homes are still moving quickly, inventory remains tight, and strong listings can attract multiple offers.

That’s why the headlines can feel so conflicting. Different markets are happening at the same time.

What that means here in Chicago:

If you’re buying:
Be strategic, stay patient, and don’t chase every bidding war. But when the right home appears, be ready to move decisively.

If you’re selling:
Pricing correctly, preparing the home properly, and launching strong still matter if you want top-dollar results.

The national story matters. But your local market matters more.

If you’re trying to make sense of today’s Chicago market, send me a message or leave a comment.
