Lesson 5 of 12 from 12 years in real estate.
Both of my careers, nursing and real estate, are actually the same job in different scrubs.
Even if to us it's Tuesday, to them it's the hardest week of the year.
Both put me in the room with families during the most stressful experiences of their lives. Both reward people who keep the perspective that this event is a BIG DEAL for them, even if it's just Tuesday for us.
That perspective is the whole skill.
The agent who calls a client back from the car between showings. The agent who says "this is going to feel hard, and that's normal" before the client even names it. The agent who slows down at the exact moment the industry would speed up. That agent earns a kind of trust transactional agents will never have access to.
When you lose the empathy of how significant something is for others, you lose your ability to be effective in the role you're in. You become competent and forgettable. You become the agent they used, not the agent they call.
If your job is to walk with people through hard things, the people skills aren't a nice-to-have. They're the entire job. The houses are secondary.
Houses are easy. Families are the work.
What's a professional who treated YOUR big moment like just Tuesday, and what did it cost them? Tell me below.
