I might be a little biased… but after nearly 30 years in real estate, I really believe the Cedar Rapids area is one of the most underrated places to live in the country.

People are often surprised by what you can get here compared to other markets. Affordable homes, great neighborhoods, strong employers, parks, trails, and a community that has a lot more to offer than people realize.

I’ve helped a lot of people relocate here over the years, and one thing I hear over and over is:

“We had no idea Cedar Rapids had all of this.”

I’m curious…

I recently visited the Cultivate Hope Urban Farm, and it reminded me that what makes a community special isn’t just the homes—it’s the people and organizations working to make life better for everyone.

This urban farm grows fresh food, provides educational opportunities, and brings neighbors together. It’s one of those places that quietly makes a big impact.

After nearly 30 years helping people buy and sell homes in the Cedar Rapids area, I’ve learned that choosing where to live is about much more than square footage or the number of bedrooms. It’s about finding a community that feels like home.

This is one of the reasons I’m proud to call Cedar Rapids home.

Not every real estate transaction goes exactly as planned.

In fact, the three biggest deal killers I see are:

✅ Financing issues
✅ Inspection surprises
✅ Appraisal problems

The difference isn’t whether these challenges show up—it’s how they’re handled when they do.

After 28 years in the Cedar Rapids area real estate market, I’ve learned that keeping a deal together often comes down to communication, problem-solving, and knowing what options are available before emotions take over.

Some deals should fall apart. Others can be saved when everyone stays focused on solutions instead of obstacles.

Experience doesn’t guarantee a perfect transaction, but it can help buyers and sellers navigate the bumps along the way.

Everybody loves saving money… until the deal starts falling apart.

Interesting trend in today’s housing market…

According to recent home buyer data, single women are purchasing homes at more than double the rate of single men. 🏡

The bigger takeaway? More people are realizing they may not have to wait for the “perfect timing” in life to start building equity and investing in themselves.
