Cynthia Spence Design Cynthia Spence Design is a high-end interior design and project management firm based in the San Fra

For more than 10 years, Cynthia Spence Design has been delivering full-service interior design services to residential and commercial clients throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area. During that time, the company has helped hundreds of families and companies create unique lifestyle and work environments. As a fundamental design premise, Cynthia believes that today’s world has become increasingly noisy, thereby necessitating environments that provide solace and restoration. Her goal is to collaborate with clients in the overall scheme and realization of timeless interiors -- beautifully designed to resonate with their individuality and rigorously edited to invite calm. Whether engaged in a full-scale remodel or a much-needed refresh, the capabilities of Cynthia Spence Design can assist clients with design conception and space planning, CAD layouts and renderings, architectural detailing, lighting plans, selection of finishes and furnishings through accessories and art. Prior to starting her design business, Cynthia held marketing and management positions in prominent entertainment and high tech companies. Although an unlikely path, the experience gained in relationship marketing, creative services, project management and out-of-the-box thinking has helped shaped her business acumen and hone her creative skills.

A beautiful office can change how you settle into your work.

I’m drawn to spaces that give the mind a little room. Natural light across a desk. Art that invites you to look up. A comfortable chair and a place to put things away.

For me, productivity belongs in that conversation, alongside pleasure. An office should invite concentration, leave room for ideas, and feel like somewhere you want to be.

What helps you feel focused in your workspace?

It’s a pleasure to be part of a creative community that comes together for a shared purpose. Please join me in celebrating and supporting the benefit.

I believe everyone deserves a corner of their home that feels like their own.

A place to read, gather your thoughts, or simply enjoy a little quiet while life carries on around you.

Creating that sense of separation can be surprisingly simple. A folding screen or a freestanding bookcase can introduce privacy, define a dining nook, or give a larger room a more intimate rhythm.

When I design a home, I think about how people will share it—and where each person can retreat. Both deserve thoughtful consideration.

Take a look around your home: where would a little more definition make daily life feel better?

A new season is an invitation to consider what’s next—for you and your home.

At Cynthia Spence Design, every project begins with a conversation. We want to understand how you live, what you value, and what you envision for the place you call home.

We listen, we craft, and we curate, bringing your vision to life through a thoughtful, personal design process.

We’re now welcoming new projects. Whether you have a clear direction or are still exploring the possibilities, we’d love to hear what you have in mind.

Autumn makes the warmth of a home especially inviting. Rich wood, soft light, a tucked-away place to read or a bar ready for a glass of something lovely.

I love how a glimpse through a doorway can draw you further in. An invitation to settle in and stay awhile.

Where do you find yourself lingering at home?

A corner of quiet can change how you feel at home.

I like defined spaces because they make room for different ways of living. Somewhere to gather. Somewhere to retreat with a book and exhale.

That is why I begin by asking how you want to live and what you need your home to do for you. The answers give each space its purpose.

Where do you go to find a little quiet in your home?

The beauty of a home often lies in the unexpected.

A hidden passage, a statement mirror, or an architectural detail that sparks curiosity. I love when the spaces that connect and divide rooms become expressions of artistry and personality.

Because the most beautiful homes are the ones that make you feel something.

Which detail inspires you most?

Not every design decision is love at first sight. And that’s perfectly okay.

I believe a couture home should reflect the people who live in it, not simply what looks beautiful on paper.

When a client doesn’t connect with a piece I’ve selected, I listen, reconsider, and find something that feels more like them. Every material, texture, and furnishing should belong in the home and feel right to the person living with it.

Because true couture design is personal. It’s about creating a home that feels unmistakably yours. One you can walk into and exhale.

Before you install a light fixture, consider what you want the light to do.

I look at how you use the room, where you need light to read or work, and where a softer glow belongs. The fixture is part of that decision. So is the light it casts.

Save this for your next lighting decision.
