Happy Wednesday, wildlife lovers! Today, we are shining a tiny but mighty spotlight on one of the forest's most energetic, busy, and adorable residents: the Eastern Chipmunk (Tamias striatus), who just happens to be our mascot!

You’ve probably seen these striped speedsters darting across your yard or scampering over fallen logs, but did you know just how incredible they really are? Here are a few fascinating facts about our favorite little ground-dwellers:

🎒 Ultimate Packing Specialists: A chipmunk's cheeks are its superpower! They have expandable cheek pouches that can stretch to be three times the size of their heads. They use them like shopping bags to carry nuts, seeds, and even soil back to their burrows.
🏡 Subterranean Architects: While they are expert climbers, chipmunks actually build massive, complex underground burrow systems that can reach over 10 feet long! They even carry dug-up dirt away in their cheeks to keep the entrances hidden from predators.
