This 1908 photo shows people waiting at Ellis Island station, which was the largest immigration center in the US from 1892-1924. More than 12 million immigrants were processed there through 1954. 🗽

The beautiful building, so rich with history, sat empty for decades until it opened as public museum in 1990.
