✨ Many hosts aren't living by the law of abundance and it shows ✨
I've said many times, the fewer number of people in a line of communication, the better the guest experience. The treehouse has one human. Me. And you'll find me at the other end of a platform's booking thread or a text thread if you book direct. Most rentals have 1. Owner 2. Host/manager 3. Cleaning company
If a manager runs multiple properties (they do) chances go up exponentially that your request is forgotten/not followed through/not seen in time. Most cleaners work for a company and do multiple cleans a day, sometimes the same properties that they are familiar with, sometimes not. Turnover in the cleaning industry is wild. If they are new to the role (they are) the chances of missing things goes up exponentially.
I've always been the sole cleaner for our property. I set
everything up this way intentionally. I saw the break in guest experience before the treehouse was even built. I felt the annoyance of a full page of check-out instructions, the long response time from the corporate host. I've spent over an hour cleaning the morning of departure, including starting 2 loads of laundry!
I've never advocated for that. I even made some long form content over a year ago on this exact topic that I never hit publish on.
But if hosts are being forced to treat guests with more love, does the kindness even count if it's not organic?
