The Housing Shortage May Have an Expiration Date:
Economists have discussed the so-called “silver tsunami” for years—the idea that aging homeowners will eventually sell, downsize, move into assisted living, or pass their properties to younger generations.
Until now, it has happened more slowly than many expected.
Older Americans are staying in their homes longer, and many have little financial reason to leave.
But demographics eventually win.
Realtor.com recently examined what could happen as this generational turnover accelerates and found something surprising:
