This is a friendly reminder that interior waterproofing and structural reinforcement are very different things--and one can actually hide a structural issue. It’s also a reminder that when there is an invoice for repairs it is important to read it carefully and double-check the work. The invoice for this waterproofing job said that 2 of the basement walls were reinforced with carbon fiber straps before the Durawall covering was applied. I could tell right away that the rear wall had an issue(NOT one of the stabilized walls on the invoice). I got out my level and tape measure and sure enough this wall was bowed with nearly 2.5" of deflection with no stabilizing measures, and the waterproofing was installed right over it anyways. Had i just read the invoice and not checked my client would have been on the hook for thousands in foundation repairs. Would your inspector have caught this?
