Montana: Montana rancher’s dinosaur find sells for $47.3 million
A Montana treasure just made history! 🦖 “Jodi,” a rare Nanotyrannus skeleton that rancher Jodi Pierson found on her land in Montana’s Hell Creek Formation in 2019, sold Tuesday at Sotheby’s in New York for $47.3 million. Six collectors fought over it for 12 minutes, and the final price came in at more than five times the $9 million high estimate.
It’s now the second most expensive dinosaur fossil ever sold at auction, just behind the $50.1 million T. rex “Gus.” It is one of only three substantial Nanotyrannus skeletons known to science, and it came out of Montana ground.
