REAL ESTATE 101: Appraisal vs. Inspection 🏡
If you’re buying your first home, you’ll likely hear both of these terms throughout the process. While they may sound similar, they serve two very different purposes.
A home inspection evaluates the property’s condition and helps identify potential issues you should know about before moving forward.
An appraisal helps determine the home’s estimated market value and is often required by your lender.
Here’s why the distinction matters: a home can appraise at the price you’re paying and still need a new roof, repairs or other work. And a home in great condition can still appraise for less than the agreed purchase price.
Neither step guarantees a problem-free purchase but both can provide valuable information to help you make informed decisions.
Buying a home comes with a lot of new terminology. You don’t have to know it all before you start, that’s part of what we’re here for!
