10 years!🥹
This year marks a DECADE since I became a licensed real estate agent in Bellingham.
I’ve been thinking about what 10 years really means.
I moved back to Whatcom County (where I’m from) in 2014 after living in California, New York, and Seattle. I took a position with the WA State Dept of Ecology, but missed my old marketing jobs — the creativity, visuals, presentation. And with two little girls at home, I needed more flexibility.
When I got my real estate license, a favorite colleague (who loved to throw shade 😂) said, “Get ready to be broke... See you back here in a year.” Lol.
I never looked back.
Real estate was such a great fit, and the universe put the right people on my path. At Coldwell Banker, I learned from local legends Dean Ulrich, Anne Cantrell, Greg Flint, the late David Hutton. Forever grateful for my mentors.
In 2019, I helped open the Compass office in Bellingham with a small team. Scary at the time, but one of my best decisions.
And somewhere in the last year or two, I’ve felt like all these years in this business have finally synced up.
After 10 years selling real estate here, I don’t just know Bellingham’s neighborhoods. I know what it feels like to live in them. Which streets feel tucked away, where you get the best evening light. The schools, the little things you’d never discover on a weekend house-hunting trip.
Ten years has also given me deep relationships with other brokers and perspective from hundreds of inspections, negotiations, weird houses, wonderful houses, and every kind of market. I know when to push back, when to jump on something, and what to focus on in a negotiation.
There’s an intuition that only comes from years of doing this work.
I still love houses. A beautiful old window, a magical garden. But today, I think my superpower is the experience I’ve gained — helping people make big decisions with confidence, from finding the right neighborhood to navigating a tricky negotiation.
I feel incredibly lucky to do this work in a place I know and love so deeply. Bellingham has my ❤️!
