🧡 DYSLEXIA AWARENESS MONTH: MYTH vs. FACT 🧡
⭐ MYTH: Dyslexia means a person sees letters or words backward.
✅ FACT: Dyslexia is a language-based learning difference that primarily affects skills involved in accurate and fluent word reading, decoding, and spelling. While some students may reverse letters, reversals alone do not define dyslexia.
⭐ MYTH: Students with dyslexia just need to try harder.
✅ FACT: Dyslexia is not caused by a lack of effort. Students with dyslexia often work incredibly hard! They benefit from explicit, systematic, structured literacy instruction that teaches them how our language works.
⭐ MYTH: Dyslexia is related to low intelligence.
✅ FACT: Dyslexia has nothing to do with intelligence. Dyslexic learners can be bright, creative, curious, and highly capable while still experiencing significant difficulty with reading and spelling.
⭐ MYTH: Students will eventually “grow out of” dyslexia.
✅ FACT: Dyslexia is lifelong, but with early identification, appropriate instruction, accommodations, and encouragement, students with dyslexia can become successful readers and confident learners.
💙 This October, let’s replace misconceptions with understanding and make sure every dyslexic learner receives the support they need to SHINE! ⭐
