The Oettinger Welcome to the Oettinger Beach Cottage — our slice of Hatteras Island, nestled within the Cape Hatteras National Seashore on North Carolina's Outer Banks.

The Oettinger

There's a spot on Hatteras Island where the pavement gives up and the ocean takes over. That's where you'll find us. The Oettinger is four bedrooms, all en-suite, built for a crew that wants their own space and their own bathroom — because vacation shouldn't come with a line for the shower. Three decks wrap the house so the view finds you no matter where you're standing, and when the light starts doing that thing it does over the Atlantic, the upper-level hot tub is exactly where you want to be. Inside, ceiling fans keep the air moving the old-fashioned way, and the furniture is the kind you sink into after a full day of sun and salt water. Two master suites on each level mean nobody's fighting over the good room — two kings, a queen, and two singles, spread out so everyone gets their space and their own TV to fall asleep to. An elevator handles the luggage and the grocery runs. A lower-level entry means sandy feet don't have to negotiate a staircase. Laundry's on-site, wifi's fast, and the rest is up to you — nap, fish, watch the pelicans work the wind line, or just sit with a drink and watch Hatteras Island do what it does best. This isn't a hotel. It's a house that knows exactly what it's for.

🎣 The first annual Oettinger Offshore Open is in the books!

Ten anglers. Two boats. $600 to the crew with the heaviest box.

We ran out of Oregon Inlet before sunrise on October 9, and the blackfin tuna were running hard, with a few king mackerel mixed in. Qualifier and Drifter fished it out all day, and when the catch was weighed, Drifter pulled ahead for the win. Congrats to Rick, Todd, Sean, Neil and Jason. Enjoy the bragging rights, because we're coming for them next year.

Then came dinner at Ketch 55 and a fierce game of Qualifier (the dice game, not the boat). Dave walked away about $700 richer, more than the actual tournament purse, and was gone first thing the next morning without buying anyone breakfast. Dave, we noticed. ☕

We've completely refreshed our website for The Oettinger, our family's oceanfront beach house in Avon.
