My version of a life well lived in Austin

When I'm not helping people find their version of Austin, you'll usually find me spending time with my family, exploring somewhere with Bockus, getting my hands dirty in the garden, or enjoying the little things that make life so good.

I've called Austin home my entire life, and somehow I still find new reasons to love it.

Life is about so much more than what we do for a living, isn't it?

Now I'm curious. Where would I find YOU when you're not working? 👇

Hi friend, you made it! 🫶

Thinking about moving to Austin? Or maybe you're already here and still figuring out your favorite parts of the city?

You're in the right place.

I grew up in Austin, and I've watched this city change in ways I never could have imagined. Some things I love, some things I miss, and plenty of things I think you should know before deciding where to live.

Around here, we talk neighborhoods, homes, hidden gems, local favorites, and what everyday life in Austin is really like.

Because choosing a home isn't just about bedrooms, bathrooms, or square footage. It's about finding a place where you can actually picture your life.

I'll share what I know, what I've learned, and occasionally what I think Austin could do a little better. 😉

If you're looking for an honest local perspective, with a little personality along the way, I'd love for you to follow along.

Let's find the version of Austin that fits you. 🌳

5 ways to romanticize your life in Austin 🌿☀️

Sometimes we get so caught up in our routines that we forget how much this city has to offer.

Here's what you're gonna do....

1. Make nature part of your everyday routine. 🌳

Walk the Barton Creek Greenbelt, take a dip in Barton Springs, or find a quiet spot to enjoy the Hill Country views. You don't have to leave town to feel like you've gotten away.

2. Find your favorite local spots. ☕

Skip the usual chains once in a while. Discover a neighborhood coffee shop, a little restaurant, or a place that makes you feel like a regular.

3. Explore a neighborhood you've never really explored. 🏡

Austin has so many different personalities. Spend an afternoon walking through an area you don't know well. You might discover a whole new side of the city.

4. Make ordinary days feel like weekends. ☀️

Take the scenic route home. Watch the sunset. Sit outside a little longer. You don't need a special occasion to enjoy where you live.

5. Create a lifestyle that actually fits you. 💚

Maybe that's a home near the trails, a walkable neighborhood, or a backyard where you can unwind. The best version of Austin is the one that feels right for you.

I've lived in Austin my whole life, and I still find new reasons to love it.

Whether you've been here for decades or you're just thinking about making the move, don't forget to enjoy the place you call home.

Choose the version of Austin that fits you. 🌿

Yesterday's walk around Town Lake started with an unexpected new friend.

His name was Butt Butt.

I spotted him perched on someone's shoulder, looking completely at home. His owner smiled and told me to hold out my finger. I did....and Butt Butt flew right over and perched on my hand like we'd known each other forever.

It was the perfect way to start one of those glorious Austin evenings.

For my Austin people who love Town Lake as much as I do, this time of year is all about timing. I started my walk around 7:30 p.m., and there was still enough breeze coming off the water to make it feel worth it.

I kept stopping.

Not because of the skyline.

Not because of the sunset.

Because of the plants.

The wildflowers, the grasses, the tiny blooms tucked beneath the trees....all of them somehow thriving through a Texas summer. Most people walk right past them.

One of my favorites was the Texas sage.

My grandmother always used to say that when the Texas sage turned purple, it meant rain was coming. After a lifetime in Austin, I've found there's a lot of truth to that. Sometimes it rains right where you are, and sometimes the storm passes a few miles away but those beautiful purple blooms always seem to now when moisture is in the air.

That's what I love about Austin.

The skyline is beautiful. The water is beautiful. But sometimes it's the little things an unexpected bird named Butt Butt, the breeze off the lake, a vibrant crepe myrtle framing the Texas Capitol, and flowers blooming through the summer heat that remind you why this city feels so special.

As a Realtor, people often ask me about neighborhoods, schools, or home prices. Those things matter.

But so does this.

Finding the right home isn't just about bedrooms and square footage. It's about finding a place where your everyday walk makes you slow down, look around, and think, "I'm really glad I live here."

Choose a version of Austin that fits you.

Follow along for more through a local's lens.

We bought this house twice.

Back when Guy and I were building a home in Lake Pointe, we spent months selecting every detail....from the stone on the exterior to the finishes inside.

Then reality hit.

It felt expensive. It felt overwhelming. And honestly, it felt a little scary.

So we backed out.

The builder even returned our deposit.

A few weeks later, we drove by the house again. We talked through all of our fears, sat down with the sales representative, and realized something important:

Sometimes being nervous doesn't mean you're making the wrong decision.

It means you're making a big one.

We ended up buying the house, and years later it's one of my favorite real estate memories.

If you're buying your first home, building a home, or moving across the country to a place you've never lived before, I promise those feelings are normal.

I've been there too.

Today feels a little nostalgic for me.

Growing up in Austin, Cinco de Mayo wasn’t just something you heard about....it was something you experienced.

I still remember learning these dances at Ridgetop Elementary with one of my best friends at the time. The music, the movement, the dresses....it all stayed with me.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Battle of Puebla, a moment of resilience and pride. And over time, especially here in Texas, it has become a celebration of culture, heritage, and community.

What always stood out to me was the beauty of it!! The Jalisco dresses, the tradition, the energy....it’s something you don’t forget.

I feel really grateful that this was part of how I grew up.

I wouldn’t change a thing.

Happy Cinco de Mayo 🤍
