Moving to Austin? Here’s how you’ll know when you’re a local 👇🏼

1️⃣ Develop an unnecessarily strong opinion about breakfast tacos. And know exactly where your spot is.

2️⃣ Choose your H-E-B. Not the closest H-E-B. Your H-E-B. There’s a difference.

3️⃣ Learn that “the lake” is not specific enough. Lake Austin? Lake Travis? Lady Bird Lake? Please clarify.

4️⃣ Experience cedar fever and briefly wonder if you’re dying. Congratulations, you’ve unlocked an Austin rite of passage.

5️⃣ Start considering 85° “pretty nice out.” Bonus points if you immediately suggest sitting on a patio.

6️⃣ Develop a complicated relationship with I-35. You’ll eventually start evaluating invitations based on which side of it they’re on.

7️⃣ Know exactly what you’re doing the first time it hits 70° after summer. Patio. Trail. Lake. Anywhere but inside.

8️⃣ Have at least one swimming hole you’re weirdly protective of. And possibly another one you refuse to tell people about.

9️⃣ Stop questioning the weird stuff. Peacocks? Bats? Eeyore’s birthday? A cathedral made of junk? Sure. Sounds right.

🔟 Complain about how much Austin has changed… regardless of when you moved here.

Lake Travis ISD is a great place to start your home search, but it’s definitely not where the decisions end. 👇🏼

One thing I always tell families relocating to West Austin? Two homes in the same school district can offer two VERY different lifestyles.

Here are a few things I encourage parents to think about before narrowing down their search:

1️⃣ Established or newer? Do you love mature trees, character and established neighborhoods like Lakeway and The Hills? Or are you drawn to newer construction and resort-style amenities in communities like Rough Hollow?

2️⃣ Golf or lake life? Would you rather spend your weekends on the golf course, out on Lake Travis, or a little of both?

3️⃣ What’s your daily drive? Commute times to downtown Austin, school drop-offs, extracurricular activities and even the grocery store can vary quite a bit depending on where you land.

4️⃣ Space or convenience? Are you dreaming of a larger lot, privacy and Hill Country views? Or would you prefer a neighborhood where friends, pools, parks and amenities are close by?

5️⃣ Which schools are you actually zoned for? Being in Lake Travis ISD doesn’t mean every address is assigned to the same elementary or middle school. Always verify the specific attendance zones before buying.

6️⃣ What stage of life are you in? A family with toddlers might prioritize something completely different from a family with teenagers.

And here’s the thing… there isn’t one neighborhood that’s the perfect fit for every family.

The goal isn’t just to find a home in Lake Travis ISD.
It’s to find a community that fits the way your family wants to live.

I’ve lived and worked in the Lake Travis area for years, and helping families navigate these differences is one of my favorite parts of what I do.

Sweet 16 calls for a special dinner. 🤍

We’re still making good on our family goal to get out of our Lakeway bubble and try more of Austin’s incredible restaurants, and this month Jake got to pick the occasion!
We celebrated his 16th birthday at J Carver’s ATX downtown, and it did not disappoint. Incredible steaks, seafood, and truly one of those meals where everything that hit the table was SO good.

Happy 16th, Jake! 🥳
