The Atlanta Dream is moving all 25 regular-season home games to State Farm Arena in 2027 under a new multi-year agreement, bringing the WNBA franchise to a larger venue in the heart of downtown Atlanta.

After selling out every game at Gateway Center Arena over the past three seasons, the Dream has seen season ticket membership grow more than 400% over five years. State Farm Arena will offer significantly more seating capacity, a wider range of ticket prices, and expanded premium experiences.

The move brings more major sporting events to downtown Atlanta and raises questions about the role of sports and entertainment venues in supporting the area’s continued growth and real estate activity.

Real estate projects can take three to six years to bring to fruition, but the financial landscape can change dramatically before they’re complete.

Allen Morris, Chairman and CEO of The Allen Morris Company , recalls reaching the milestone for a permanent 30-year fixed-rate loan at 10%, only to discover that the insurance company responsible for funding it had no money.

As policyholders borrowed against their life insurance policies, funds were drained across the insurance industry. Interest rate shocks can trigger a domino effect that puts even carefully planned deals in jeopardy.

Atlanta Housing has broken ground on the second phase of Ariel Place at Bowen, a major redevelopment of the former Bowen Homes public housing site on Atlanta’s Westside. The project marks another step in transforming a site that remained vacant for more than a decade.

The $50.2 million phase will add 112 rental units at various price points, joining 151 units from the first phase. The long-term plan calls for 2,000 residences, commercial space, a new elementary school, workforce development facilities and expanded greenspace across the 74-acre site.

Backed by more than $530 million in public and private funding, the redevelopment represents a long-term effort to reshape the former public housing site into a mixed-income neighborhood with housing, community amenities and commercial space.

Sweet Apple Village, a 62,500-square-foot retail center in Roswell’s Crabapple area, has traded for $20.25 million, marking the highest sales price for a retail property in the surrounding area in four years.

SouthCoast acquired the center from Ziff Real Estate Partners after 15 years of ownership. Located along Etris Road, the property is 98% leased, with no individual tenant occupying more than 12% of its gross leasing area.

The transaction highlights continued investor interest in unanchored retail properties, particularly centers with essential-service tenants, smaller shop spaces, and diversified tenant mixes.

Is Senior Living Making People Less Healthy?

Steve Nygren , Founder & CEO of Serenbe , points to a fundamental problem with the way we think about aging. Traditional senior living can be gray, institutional, and overly clinical, even though staying mentally active and engaged becomes just as important in our later years.

For Nygren, the answer is not more luxury or heavy crown molding. It is creating environments that make people feel alert, connected, and alive.
