🍎 FORMER TEACHER → REAL ESTATE AGENT

People sometimes ask if I miss teaching.

The funny thing is... I’m not entirely sure I stopped. 😂

I spent 20 years as a teacher, and it turns out teaching and real estate have a surprising amount in common.

I still explain complicated things in normal-human language.

I still answer the same question more than once without making you feel bad for asking.

I still keep track of deadlines, paperwork and approximately 47 things happening at the same time.

I still occasionally have to say, “Nope. We are NOT doing that.”

And I still believe my job isn't to make decisions for people. It's to give them the information, tools and confidence to make good decisions for themselves.

The classroom looks a little different these days. Instead of concerts, lesson plans and teenagers, it's inspections, contracts, negotiations and houses.

But apparently, I’m still a teacher.

I just have a lockbox now. 🏡😂

📍 AROUND HERE: OAK GROVE

Here’s one of my favorite North DeKalb questions:

Where exactly is Oak Grove?

Ask five people and you may get six answers. 😂

Oak Grove isn’t an incorporated city with tidy little borders. It’s one of those North DeKalb communities that people tend to define by the places they know—the schools, neighborhoods, churches, restaurants and roads that make the area feel like Oak Grove.

And that’s part of what makes North DeKalb interesting. You can drive just a few miles and move from Tucker to Smoke Rise to Northlake to Oak Grove and Lakeside, and each area has its own personality, housing styles and little pockets that locals know by heart.

So I’m curious:

If someone asked YOU to draw the boundaries of Oak Grove on a map, where would you put them? 👀

🏡 WHAT DOES $500K–$600K BUY AROUND HERE?

One of the things I love about North DeKalb is how much can change in just a few miles.

A $500K–$600K budget might put you in a classic brick ranch with a great yard in one neighborhood, an updated mid-century home in another, or give you more square footage and a completely different feel somewhere else.

And THAT is why I always tell buyers: don't just shop for the house. Shop for the area, too.

Think about what matters to you.

🌳 Bigger lot or less yard work?
🔨 Updated and move-in ready or something you can make your own?
🚗 Convenience to I-285 and Atlanta or a quieter neighborhood feel?
🏠 More square footage or more location?

There isn't one "best" answer. There's the answer that works best for you.

🏡 After years of walking through houses, I have learned one very important lesson:
People are creative.
I've seen design decisions that made me stop, tilt my head and think...
“Well...that's a choice.” 😂
Carpet in the bathroom? A classic.
A toilet sitting on its own little throne-like platform? Why not.
Mirrors. On. The. Ceiling. 👀
We will not be asking follow-up questions.
And then there are the DIY projects where you can almost hear someone saying, “I watched a video. How hard could it be?”
Here's the funny thing, though: Every house has something. And when you're selling, my job isn't to judge your questionable 1997 decorating decisions. It's to figure out which ones we should change, which ones buyers won't care about, and which ones might actually become part of the story of the house.
