McKinney's $334M amphitheater is about 70% built — and could host up to 100 shows a year.
The Sunset Amphitheater on US 75 is about 70% complete, according to the developer, Venu.
At an Oct 5 joint meeting with the city, Venu's construction VP put its cost at about $334 million — up from $220 million in the original city agreement. That's Venu's investment, not city spending.
What changed: seating now flexes between 5,000, 8,000, 12,000 and 20,000, and a climate-control system is planned so the venue can run October through April. Venu says that could take it from 60 shows a year to as many as 100.
Next: a temporary certificate of occupancy could come by April 1. That's a construction milestone, not an opening date — Venu's official timeline is summer 2027.
Why it's worth watching: up to 100 nights a year at US 75 and SH 121 likely means more to do close to home — and more event-night traffic on that corridor. Worth knowing if you're weighing a home nearby.
