There's a part of rescue that doesn't make for pretty pictures.
It's the part that comes after the freedom ride. After the happy tears. After the animal is finally safe.
It's the bloodwork. The X-rays. The surgeries. The medications. The veterinary bills that inevitably arrive when you're involved in rescue work.
And right now, Prairie Song Rescue is carrying some very big medical needs for some very deserving little souls.
Here are a few of their stories.
👑 DORY. Our 22-pound Texas street princess. The runt of her litter. The little fighter who finally found safety and the world's most wonderful fosters.
Now she's facing suspected severe bilateral hip dysplasia and needs urgent specialized surgical care. Her estimated procedure alone is $3,500 not to mention follow up needs.
We're $1400 from our goal & surgery is happening THIS Friday.
She's just a baby. Her story should be about learning to be a dog, not struggling with painful hips.

We are SO lucky to have this quality of vet care in our community. They are truly life savers! Between BVS & her fosters Switchback Premier Adventure Properties, Dory is in the best of hands.
❤️ CLIFF. Our sweet senior gentleman was pulled from a euthanasia list at the very last minute. He was nearly out of time.
He arrived off of transport very skinny, in immense pain & not able to use his hind end.
Now he's safe, (AND adopted into a wonderful family!), but his troubles aren't over. Cliff had severe hind-end mobility issues, broken teeth and a tumor that needed to be removed.
We didn't save this old boy just to let him spend whatever time he has left in pain. He deserves comfort, dignity & a whole lot of love in his golden years.
So he underwent surgery & has had some amazing donations, but his remaining vet bill is hovering right around $500. Please consider donating to Great Plains Vet in Great Falls for Cliff's remaining balance.
🐶 THE PARVO PUPS.
We recently had some pups in foster contract this horrible virus. Tiny bodies fighting a terrifying disease. Parvo treatment means intensive veterinary care, medications, monitoring & a whole lot of hoping.
These babies deserve the chance to grow up, chew shoes, steal socks & become the glorious household menaces they were born to be.
They have received the monoclonal & are under round the clock care. But they have a tremendous vet bill.
Please consider donating to Livingston Veterinary Hospital for our non-stop vet bill with them. They are truly our heroes and we would not be able to do our work without them.
🌸 NAMORA. Another precious soul pulled from a high-kill shelter. Instead of finally getting to relax into her new life, she's battling severe skin issues that require ongoing care and supplements.
She deserves to feel comfortable in her own skin. Literally.
Please send us a message for info about how to pay her vet. The doc is in Billings and does not do virtual payments so she needs a check sent to her if you're interested in helping with her recovery.
Just four stories. So much suffering. And four very good reasons we refuse to look away.
This isn't even including the costs of the 18 spay/neuter procedures, countless meds and follow up visits that we accomplished with our vet teams in the last 2 weeks.
But here's the thing about Prairie Song.
We don't just rescue the easy ones.
We rescue the old ones. The broken ones. The sick ones. The ones whose medical needs make other people hesitate.
Because their lives are worth saving, too.
But we cannot do it without you.
