🗳️ Last weekend of early voting: the Human Services Building, 1040 S. Winter St., Adrian, 9–5 through Sun, Nov 1. Election Day is Tue, Nov 3 (polls 7 a.m.–8 p.m.).
🎄 Fri, Nov 6: First Friday in downtown Adrian, "Home for the Holidays."
🎻 Fri, Nov 6: Adrian Symphony Orchestra Benefit Gala, 6 p.m. (doors at 5:30). The online silent auction runs through Nov 6.
🎅 Nov 13–15: Yuletide Weekend in downtown Blissfield, with Breakfast with Santa and Brunch & Bingo.
🌲 Sat, Nov 14: Fresh Wreath Class at the Adrian Center for the Arts, 10 a.m.–noon. Call 517-759-3005.
🏗️ The old Adrian Mall (now the Howard Center) has a $60–70M plan, including about 200 residential units. A new eyeglass shop and a donut and coffee chain are coming in spring 2027 (WTOL).

Q: Should I wait for mortgage rates to drop before buying a home in Monroe County, Lenawee County or Toledo?

A: Short answer: stop trying to time the bottom. Nobody can.

Here's the real number. Bankrate's national average for a 30-year fixed was 7.36% on Oct 26, 2026, down 0.11% from last week. Rates hit their highest levels since November 2023 just a few weeks ago, and Fannie Mae now forecasts rates around 7.5% for all of 2027 (WSJ). Waiting for 6% could mean waiting a long time.

What actually wins in Temperance, Monroe, Adrian, Tecumseh and Toledo right now: buy the house that fits your payment today. When fewer buyers are shopping, sellers negotiate. That means price cuts, seller-paid closing costs and rate buydowns. Then refinance if rates fall later. You can change your rate. You can't go back and buy the house you passed on.

Toledo, Halloween week is next. Here's your short list.

🚢 Fri–Sat, Oct 30–31: Boo on the Boat. Kids trick-or-treat aboard the Schoonmaker (pictured) and the Tug Ohio at the National Museum of the Great Lakes, 10–5 (last boarding at 4). Free for members and ages 5 and under.
🎃 Sat, Oct 31: Trick-or-treat in Toledo, Ottawa Hills and Springfield Township is 6–8 p.m. (per Toledo Parent).
🎪 Oct 30–Nov 2: Paranormal Cirque: Specter at Franklin Park Mall. Ages 13 and up only.
🍹 Coming in November: Mi Cozumel at Franklin Park Mall.
📚 PLATE 21 on Rugby Dr. is expanding, with a bigger kitchen, more seating and a pre-owned bookstore partnership.

Bedford, Temperance and Monroe: here's what's worth knowing this week.

🚒 Bedford's Nov 3 ballot has a new 1-mill fire tax for 10 years. That's about $100 a year per $100,000 of taxable value, collected starting in 2028.
🏘️ A 27-acre rezoning at 8444 Lewis Ave. (single-family to two-family) went to the Township Board Oct 20. The result hasn't been posted yet.
🎭 Last weekend for "Misery" at Monroe Community Players (Mall of Monroe): Fri–Sat at 7, Sun at 2.
🎃 Tue, Oct 27: Trunk or Treat at the Bedford Branch Library, 6–7 p.m.
🎹 Sat, Nov 7: Dueling Pianos at the Monroe County Fairgrounds, 7–9 p.m.
